I use both. If I don't want people to know I live in TV I use Lady Lake.

Also, it depends on which auto navigator you use.

Smile The zip code is the key

Using the correct zip should make sure you get your mail/packages. I have had so many things returned or delivered to the wrong address until I added the full zip code 32163-5912 for example.
Good luck

Really all that matters is the zip code. We used to live in 32163. Moved to Well Point 34762 and had a very difficult time trying to get the car insurance company to understand we did not live in Leesburg (Lake County) but in Sumter. The cost difference for car insurance was $1800 more if we lived in Leesburg. We switched to another company.

Use "the Villages" with vendors if you want to pay more than you should.

Look around halfway down the page.

Hickory Head Hammock, which was the original Morse Compound in the Villages next to Spanish Springs Town Square, is in Sumter County, in the city of Lady Lake. There are several homes there, usually you'll see one for sale every couple of years.
The USPS building that handles delivery for zip code 32159 is known as the Lady Lake Post Office on Teague Trail. It is possible that when it was created the only addresses it serviced were in Lake County and the city of Lady Lake.

The area that the 32159 zip code covers includes portions of Sumter County as well as Lady Lake. It would make sense that as the early Villages were constructed the nearest post office was used and the area of the closest zip code was expanded to cover them. This doesn't mean the city of Lady Lake expanded, it means the area covered by the 32159 zip code which is known as "Lady Lake, FL" expanded and now includes portions of both Lake and Sumter counties.

As the Villages continued to grow it needed a new zip code and 32162 was created as "The Villages." More growth added yet another and 32163 was added, again as "The Villages." (32163 was carved out of "Wildwood, FL" 34785) I know that mail for 32163 is still routed through the Teague Trail building and I suspect 32162 is. as well.

The town of Lady Lake exists entirely within Lake County. The city of Lady Lake exists entirely within Lake County.

The Post Office that 32159 mail is delivered from is on Teague Trail in Lady Lake and is known as the "Lady Lake, FL" post office. The area within the 32159 zip code extends into The Villages within Sumter County. This doesn't put these homes in Lake County and it doesn't put these homes in the city of Lady Lake. All this means is their mail is delivered through the "Lady Lake, FL" post office.

You can use either. There is no town called The Villages, but the post office accepted it as an address back in the early 2000's and the govt put it on maps. You can use the name of the post office town that your mail is sorted and delivered from or The Villages, both will get your mail to you. ZIP CODE 32162 is in Sumter County, but mail is processed from the Lady Lake post office. Prior to 2003 we used Lady Lake as the town and were then told we could use The Villages if we wanted to, but both would be accepted.

The one time we needed to visit our post office we learned that it wasn't the nearest one over in Wildwood, it was the one up in Lady Lake about 30 mins away. We felt that was rather inconvenient. Given the problems you've had arguing with an insurance company, I'm happy with my one-time, 30 minute drive.

#1 The VIllages- (What we have reluctantly agreed to use as the default--this seems to work with the least amount of hassle)
#2 Middleton-FEDEX
#3 Okahumpka-USPS, AMAZON
#4 Adamsville-junk mail and Pottery Barn
#5 Sumterville-catalogs
#6 Wildwood-utility bills, hospital and Sun Pass.

We use "The Villages" and sometimes the vendor will say "I show it as....." Seems to find us one way or the other..

Not sure about the why's and how's but 34762 seems to come back to one of these.
Why "reluctantly"? I don't understand.

The official answer as classified by the US Postal system for 34762 is Okahumpka.

Yes, it is one of the few truly gated sections of The Villages. It's not the only one, but it is the first.

And while it is in the municipality known as Lady Lake, it is in Sumter County.

It is NOT in the municipality known as Lady Lake, it is in an area serviced by the ZIP CODE known as Lady Lake, FL.
- The TRIM notice uses The Villages, FL 32159
- The tax bill uses The Villages, FL 32159
- And most telling: There are NO Lake County or Lady Lake items on the tax bill

That specific house, plus scroll down and you'll see a list of homes in the vicinity. Most of the ones in the Hammock are listed as being in Lady Lake.

The search result page itself has Lady Lake > Sumter County as the filters.

And when I sign up for certain things online, and have to put my address and say Lady Lake, FL, it will often require me to check on a drop-down and select Lake or Sumter county.

You are STILL referring to the mailing address. YES, the 32159 zip code is handled by the Lady Lake, FL post office and so a mailing address of
xxx Hickory Head Hammock
Lady Lake, FL 32159
will work.

According to Sumter county tax collector and property appraiser, an address of
xxx Hickory Head Hammock
The Villages, FL 32159
ALSO will work.

Notably, when you purchase that house you will pay Sumter County transfer taxes and at the end of the year you will pay Sumter County property taxes. There are Villages homes in the 32159 zip code that are within the municipality of Lady Lake. THOSE homes pay a far different set of property taxes than the Hickory Head Hammock home.

If the Hickory Head Hammock home was in the municipality of Lady Lake is it at all conceivable that Lady Lake would not take their cut of property taxes?

There is a post office in Fruitland Park.

There is also one in Wildwood but for the concern I had it was necessary to visit the post office that handles the mail for zip code 32163 and that is the Teague Trail post office.
