Well, maybe the neighbors behind or beside would be nasty enough to complain. you never know, as we've just heard. I think she's just trying to figure out how to do it legally.

But that can't be answered on here--at least, I would want to find that information out for myself from the horse's mouth at a county office--but which county and which office?

The county the home is in. All exterior structure is subject to the building code. Inspections and a certificate of occupancy will be required. You will need to show the fastening method of the sliders, and the engineering on the doors themselves.

this is exactly why i don't pose any comments or questions anymore. It seems as if there are a lot of repliers who enjoy using sarcasm in their replies. At one point to every posting i submitted, i got only nasty replies from the same person.
I can offer this comment about your question.. All county codes differ. Deed rstrictions are not a part of changes inside the home. Sumter county requires that when needing to egress in an emergency, that egress must be possible into a smoke free area. Simply put, in case of a fire, a person climbing out of a window must be able to enter a smoke free area. We were denied enclosing our lanai with glass windows. Our bedroom only has a single window to the outside, this window as an exit cannot be blocked by enclosing our lanai with any type of windows.

"If my neighbor has her lanai enclosed with glass doors and then removes the sliding glass doors going out to her lanai from the house, is she breaking any codes. Her husband can do the work. I would wonder if he needs a permit to do that?"

Actually, from the wording of your question, I made the assumption (wrongfully) that you were questioning the legality of what a neighbor was doing. Mea Culpa.

If the wording was different such as "I am trying to find out this information for my neighbor before they start the project ..." it would have been clearer.

Just my thought.

We had ours replaced and yes a permit was required. It was inspected by the county.

I think if you truly want to help your neighbor, it would be more appropriate to call the appropriate building authority vs. posting the question on a chat website. Why take the answers of strangers? Give her the absolute correct answer and go to the proper source.

I do read all the posts. that doesn't mean I remember them. The point of my post was to not take the word of people on the forum but go to the proper source.

Geez, Bogie.
