Default Weather radio????

Okay, so this might sound dumb, but I really don't know about "Weather Radios". I'm gathering from some of the posts, that many people have them. Where does one buy a Weather Radio? Are there different kinds? Different options? This is the scary part of living here. I never dealt with this in New York. Oh, don't let that seem like I'd rather be in New York....NO WAY!!!! This is where I want to be forever. LOL So, can anyone help me to learn about Weather Radios, and Code Red? Thanks, Trish

Default Weather Radios

Go to Publix, they stock the midland Noaa weather radio. Then as suggested go to your nearest fire station and they will program it and explain its operation.Do not wait as it is the cheapest (29.95)insurance that you will ever purchase.

I have my Midland weather radio set for Sumter County only. I found it gave too many warnings when set for Lake, Marion, and Sumter Counties.

Back to the serious side. It's Not normally like me but I can't help myself. I, for one, wouldn't want the sirens to go off or the phone alert to come just for a lightening storm or minor hail. It slightly irritates me that the news media makes such a big thing of storms. Hey, lightening is a very common occurrence in Florida. I only want alerts for the serious stuff. This time of year we get thunder storms most every day. Who needs to be alerted? Just expect it for Pete's sake. OK, now I close my serious side. Back to the jokes, boys and girls.

I visit the station up by 466 next to the Sheriff's Annex, but I think we should check out the new fire station and see if they're up to our standards.

The National Weather Service does not issue alerts for the common thunder storm. When there is unusually high wind associated with the storm, the alerts will be issued.

The alerts will also be issued in case of a tornado warning. If your television is not on, how would you know if a tornado might be heading your way? A couple of weeks ago, there was a tornado warning at 4:30 am. Luckily, the tornadic cell evaporated about 30 miles from The Villages.

There is nothing wrong with the quality of construction in newer homes.

I do miss my basement but I don't fear storms for some reason. The walk in closet is nice and roomy in most of our houses here.

I see a lot of dogs walking around in "Thunder coats". Lot of nervous pup's too. Our cats used to get under the bed but with so much Sturm und Drang here, they now just sit and look out the window.

I hate to admit it, but I love the dark clouds and rain. I always have.

The 2007 tornado was pretty bad. No one killed in TV and few injuries despite the number of homes damaged. People east of us weren't so lucky. I'm comfortable in my home in case of severe weather. I have a weather radio and a place in my home staked out and supplies stored there in case.

Default Can choose which emergencies to get called for

I live in a different county in Florida, and when you go to their web site "code red" subscription page, you can choose which emergencies to get called for. I only chose tornado warnings, not severe thunderstorms or flash floods. Up to you!
