You are right, but it is a commonly used term, which does not make it wrong, just something people can correct others over.

Default Clarity

Regarding the term "antisocial personality disorder" as being the replacement for sociopath is misleading. First, the term Sociopath is in fact a scientific terms and is defined with some clarity in dictionaries. The term antisocial personality disorder should be considered when an individual possesses at lease 3 of the following 7 characteristics: "1 failure to conform to social norms, 2: deceitfulness, manipulativeness, 3. impulsivity, failure to plan ahead 4. irritability, aggressiveness, 5. reckless disregard for the safety of self or others,6. consistent irresponsibility. 7. lack of remorse after having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from a person." [Source:The Sociopath Next Door]. I don't believe this definition also fits the profile of a "Sociopath" as defined by Dr. Martha Stout, ph.I understand both a Sociopath and Psychopath totally lack a conscience. The difference being the historic reason as to the cause of these disorders?

Her book is titled "The Sociopath Next Door" and it is great reading. The definition being that 1 in 25 ordinary Americans secretly has no conscience and can do anything at all without feeling guilty. Given this as a base line it would estimate that if the Villages has approximately 130,000 residents then it has approximately 520 Sociopaths walking among us. One way it was suggested to determine a "Sociopath/Psychopath is they mostly start with believing they are classic "Victim's". This does not mean all who think of themselves as victim's are Sociopaths or Psychopaths but it is a potential indicator. Given the cases where someone actually experiences a situation where they feel they
have been offended by anothers act and someone feels that person has no right to complain and who considers themselves the true victim for being exposed to a valid complaint? Who is the potential "Sociopath". As an aside I understand there is little difference in a Sociopath and Psychopath other than the cause definition??
I read that book and found it fascinating and scary at the same time.
I thought she stated that 1 out of every 100 was a sociopath.

Anyway the stats are way too high.

But those stats are what sells the book. No one would be interested if the author claimed that the incidence was maybe one in 100,000.

Same with autism, AKA the disease of the 90s. Remember those commercials that claimed that ONE IN SIX children in America had autism? Those people who live for such apocalyptic claims of course bought it hook, line and sinker. But nothing could be further from the truth, which was that maybe one in six American kids had one symptom of the dozens of symptoms of autism floating around out there, but for a firm diagnosis of autism you had to have at least three, and those symptoms had to be bad enough so that you could not function normally without outside help. Of course, that didn't appease the doomsayers, or the people in the public school system who turned autism into a cash cow in Minnesota (and I am assuming, other states as well). There may have been some changes in the criteria but I remember well the battles we fought over this.

Be wary of hyperbole.

Besides my earlier advice I also extend this pearl of wisdom to you: always remember the onus is on you to communicate in such a way that the reader understands what you want.

What I've gotten from you is you want to complain about utterly nothing and have someone agree with you.

Default Sociopaths Percentages

Regarding the question as to the number of Sociopaths among us as determined by Dr.
Martha Stout in her book, "The Sociopath Next Door" On Page 9, "..About one in twenty-five
individuals are sociopathic, meaning essentially, that they do not have a conscience".
About the Author, "Martha Stout, Ph.D [is] a clinical psychologist in private practice, served
on the faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School for twenty five
years. She is also the author of "The myth of Sanity" It is extremely well written and she is
able to describe many facet's of mental health in very understandable terms. When we discuss
behaviors and entitlements this may provide a possible background for this form of behavior?
