According to the Merriam-Webster on line dictionary "elderly" was first used in 1611 so the term has been in the English language over 400 years.

My father described himself and his peers as elderly after he reached about age 70. Elderly seems to be an acceptable descriptor to me. Refer to the folks at the gates as elderly but please do not describe them as senescent. That would bother me.

Having my amenities doubled seems very reasonable to have more qualified traffic control specialist, even though I can say in the past 7 years I've only seen a couple accidents at the gates and no evidence even those could have been caused by the gate attendant instead of impatient residents.
When they offered me a job (couple of years ago) the pay scale was $6.00 per hr with no benefits! Believe me at $25 or more I would have jumped at it.

It's good to have live people watching the gates. It's good to give villagers jobs. It's a bargain win/win situation. I love giving our gate man the exaggerated villages wave!

I don't mind being referred to as elderly, if...IF, the referrer has got along great with his parents, aunts and uncles and they were funny and sweet and smart. Then I know the referrer has a good feeling for old-er folks. There are those who post here, and thinly veiled they post as if they look down on older people. no matter what they type. That isn't nice or right and ....Karma is waiting in the wings...along with MY guardian angel.....who DRINKS.

Elder and elderly conjure up perceptively different meanings.

I wonder if misusing the words elder or elderly would be considered elder abuse under the law?

Back on topic....
I have notice at various times that the people manning the gates do not appear to think about the TIMING of the traffic flow, and occasionally let visitors though BEFORE the resident has opened and cleared their gate. The result is that the VISITOR is approaching the necked down area AT THE SAME TIME AS THE RESIDENT. I have gotten used to looking to my left, and have probably avoided 2 or 3 close calls by doing this.
I have no idea what level of training is provided for these posts, but it appears that MAYBE this could be increased.
Please try not to shoot the messenger.

The water leak repair by the City of Lady Lake and subsequent repair of the street has nothing at all to with the Villages responsibility of maintaining the street.
The ongoing maintenance of All Courtyard Villa streets are the sole responsibility of The Villages for the reason that I stated.
As you know the Courtyard Villas are unique in their design and layout, however the streets are narrow compared to the streets that are maintained by various counties.
The Courtyard Villa streets Do Not Comply with the Codes of any of those Counties.
That is why The Villages are forced into maintaining All Courtyard Villa Streets. ALL....is the Key Word.

Lastly because the Villas have a classification of " Public Access " they come under the same " Restrictions " as the various county roads and streets.
