I love animals too but this is a case where the owners need to be trained to hear the neighbors concerns.
The only solution is to let the owners have a dose of their own until they get tired of it too. Solution: buy a subsonic dog whistle and record it in a loop on tape. Play it on a home stereo directed to the Offending neighbors house. Turn up the volume level and let it play all night I can guarantee that neighbor will correct the problem By the way, don't bother to reproach me for this info, If you too are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem! |

Calling authorities might do it but as we were growing up didn't you run into any of your friends that said they heard from another friend that you said this or that about them & then they dislike you for the rest of their lives. I know this is a little different but there's nothing worse than having neighbors that won't speak to you anymore, then again maybe you don't care. Besides the authorities might say something to the dog owner but I really doubt there's really anything they can really do about it since the dog is on their property. Do we really think they'll fine them for keeping their dog in part of their house. It'll be interesting to see if they can really do something. I hope someone will follow up on this story!

A dog that is barking all day is generally frantic... it isn't in their nature to bark for no reason. They may have anxiety when they are left alone or actual fear but they don't just "bark". For that reason it would be worthwhile to knock on the door and explain that you are concerned for their well-being and, of course, mention that the noise is disturbing you and your neighbours. If they don't respond appropriately, then calling animal control might seem reasonable but you should do it knowing that the dog will likely not meet with a good fate in a shelter. Are the shelters around TV kill shelters?

Happened to me. Neighbor had all new carpet and as her dog was elderly and incontinent, she put him on the lanai. Everyone knows how hot it is here in Florida in the summer. Of course the poor dog barked all day. I knocked on her door and told her politely. I left note after note and then finally called the Neighborhood Watch. They talked to her and also left notes. When she went north her poor doggie passed away so that was the end of that sad tale. No solution on this end. Some people are too selfish to own a dog.

First of all, the poor dogs are out in this wicked heat. What if they dump their water? Not as bad a being locked in a car, but close. Yes, I would speak to the neighbors & if no result, then call the authorities. Cruelty to animals in MHO.

Can't you just shoot the owners?

For what it's worth....I've had experience with several different neighbors with barking dogs. It never helped to talk with them. All it caused was animosity. They were always on the defensive even though I tried to be nice about it. And then, when someone else called the police, all fingers pointed to me because I was the only one who had complained to them. My advice is to keep quiet and call authorities and have them handle it. It's too bad that people can't talk things out and be respectful these days.

I assume by now you've been able to resolve this issue. Please tell us if the situation has been handled and how.

We live in an area where lots of new homes are being built around us and we have been wondering what to do if a new neighbor has a dog that barks too much or craps in our yard. If that happens, we will definitely get one of the devices that you described. |
