Default Contract accepted - now what?

Did you decide what furniture you are taking and "make it work" or did you get a floor plan and narrow it down to exactly what is going fit" and just close your eyes and discard the rest?

Did anyone come down with everything purchased (linens/bedspreads new tableware and new pictures) or did you come with just the "basics" and make the new purchases afterwards. When I get there, I don't want to feel pressured that my house is not going to be "company ready".

Moving to TV as been our dream for over 18 months and now with our house selected and a new golf cart ordered, we I think I can hear the music in the square if I listen hard enough!!

In our first snowbird home we HAD to buy everything new or new to us.

In our year 'round home we pared WAY down and got rid of a LOT of stuff we wouldn't need. Very hard indeed. Some folks buy all new and some folks bring stuff with them.

We have now done both. We are really happy with our old stuff.

When we move to TV, we plan on buying most everything new. Since we live in a cold climate now, we want our furniture to reflect the warm climate. Our furniture here has somewhat of a "heavy" feel and we want to lighten things up a bit. We will bring with us some artwork that we love and our tv's. Other than that we will furnish the living room, bedrooms, lanai, bathrooms and kitchen. It will be a lot of work but lots of fun too. We don't want to feel pressured to have the home completely furnished when we get there so we will purchase a bedroom set first so we have something to sleep on and hopefully some things for the living room. The rest we will shop for at our leisure. Good luck to you!

We're going to TV o/a 15 Jan to buy our CYV and, as of now, we plan to buy guest bedroom furniture to use in the master bedroom (because we're bringing our king size mattress when we move permanently), living room furniture, and perhaps a couple of stools to use at the kitchen counter. Things could change between now and then, but think that will be a fairly good start for our lonely house between our visits. We are soooo looking forward to being there!

Yes, we are VERY HAPPY to be moving to The Villages. My Wonderful Wife has asked her questions and if you read between the lines I am going to need someone to paint the inside of our home. If you used someone that was good and charged a fair price I could use their name and phone number. We will be in Sabal Chase and making some new friends.

We are moving only the things we REALLY love and the rest stay! A few lamps, a couple of chairs, our art, the dining room set and our personal items.

We are REALLY paring down and have been for months! If there isn't a place for it... Of to Goodwill it goes!

As far as the big items, our M/BR set and mattress was only two years old so we kept the set but was able to sell everything else to the buyers for $2500. We also kept our HDTV's and artwork and a lot of household items. The buyers got a great deal and they we were happy and I figured it would of cost us $7,000 to move all that stuff, but instead our Mayflower bill was only $2800.

Wiith the money from the buyers and with what I saved on moving costs, I looked at it as being $7500 ahead. With a 2BR CYV you don't need all that much. For the living room we got two leather recliners and a reclining leather sofa from Kane's Furniture in Ocala and a new guest BR set, dinette and bar stools from Southern Lifestyles at LSL.

Grannygail,

Congrats on your new home in TV! As you can see from the answers so far, different people have done it differently.

There is no need at all for you to feel pressured to make your home "company ready" as soon as you move in. I think TV sells something like 200 homes a month. You won't be the only one in some state of unpacking boxes, settling in, furnishing and decorating. Also, please know that Villagers, at least the one's I've met, don't put on airs or have expectations of you of what your home should look like when. It's not that kind of place.

Relax, take your time and do what feels comfortable.

That said, many folks have found that less is more when it comes to deciding how much to bring. Many have thought they downsized enough only to realize they still couldn't find room for everything they brought. Having the floor plan in mind when you decide what to bring seems like a sensible approach.

Best wishes to you and welcome to Lower Paradise!

Our closing for our new home is Jan 18 and we are coming down for that and becoming frogs. We gave away or sold all of our furniture.
The only thing we are bringing is a queen size mattress and box spring for our guest bedroom, coffee table and 2 end tables. Now when we come down we have to buy furniture for 3 bedrooms and a dining room set and kitchen nook. I am getting so nervous as I know some will have to be ordered. The good thing is if you buy at Southern Lifestyles they will lend you at "no charge" a mattress, sofa and table and chairs. I brought a lot of kitchen stuff but will be buying a new set of pots and pans, dishes, glasses, new towels and sheets etc. We may be living like paupers for a while. Unfortunately when we came down and bought the land and new home we did not have enough time to buy furniture so it will have to be done when we get there.
