Smile Countertops

We had the construction-grade countertops in the kitchen and both bathrooms, and while they serve the purpose, they are pretty blah in color. Three of our friends did not want to spend the money for granite but found a place in clermont called artictic design and resurfacing. They spray a acrylic spray that resembles stone when they are done. They have all different colors and do it in one day. You can't use your countertops for 3 days is the only inconvenience. They also do showers to go over that cheap plastic looking tile most ranches have. If you have almost any style ranch-amarillo-austin-corpus christie-laredo, the cost should be the same. We paid $3000.00 for all countertops and the main shower. They collect no money till job is completed. They also do shower doors. Their number is 352-430-4555. They have an add in todays sun in the lifestyle section with a $50.00 coupon.

However you still have laminate countertops when they are done. For $4500 you can get high quality granite for kitchen and baths in an Amarillo. Probably less for a lower grade cost granite. So it seems like a $3000 waste of money.

I agree completely. UbaTuba is the name of a very affordable granite. It has all of the qualities of the sky high priced ones with "motion" and all that stuff but UbaTuba is lower priced because it is more available to be mined. It has brown and black and peachy colors in it that blend well with most woods and 99 percent of people will NOT know it is less expensive. It still is granite, not low grade at all, thousands of years old, with all of granites pretty qualities.

I've always found you should never take your counters for granite.

Thanks for the information, Rocketman. I've seen pictures of this type of application, looks good!

Could be a decent alternative. Some people really don't like granite. Different people like different things.

I am now, and have always been in love with Corian countertops. Granite is pretty, and functional, but I still choose the Corian because I like the way it looks and feels and how easily it cleans up, not to mention the price.

I have never heard of a countertop wearing out or breaking so i can only assume you change them because of style, color, whatever. So i don't look at it as a $3000.00 mistake, just $1500.00 in my pocket for more cigars and jack daniels.

Good point Rocketman. Didn't consider that aspect. Jack and Juliet make good company.

However, granite you will usually recover 100% of the cost when selling, where the $3000 you spent probably not. Weather we agree or not, most people looking to buy a home will pay extra for granite. It is one of the few remodeling jobs that typically recover 100% when selling. I have Corian in my VA home and Granite in my TV homes. I would not use Corian again. It scratches and shows them. Yes you can have it polished out, but that is expensive and makes a huge mess. Cost me $1000 to have the Corian polished last year. Never again. And because it is thinner, you are limited in the number of times that can be done.

Thanks for sharing the information, sounds like you are very happy with them and that is all that matters. Stone is not for everyone, and you got your shower reworked as well, nice to hear about other solutions.
