I feel your pain, but people talk louder because they want to talk with each other and have to talk loud enough to be understood. If there is a loud band, they have to talk even louder. It drives me crazy to see lips moving, but not be able to make out what my dinner companion is saying. Thus, I avoid loud restaurants at all times, and Happy Hour is out of the question. My hearing sort of gets paralyzed after five or ten minutes of noise like that, and then being there gets miserable. At my house, any hour can be happy hour, I can be in silence or play the music of my choice, and I can enjoy my drink in my favorite chair or even relaxing in my pool. That’s why I’m always happy.

Surely you're kidding. Country Club, music and you want a quite dinner. Try Bluefin, Chophouse or Bonefish. You deciding you want a quiet dinner isn’t going to change people’s behavior. Ask for a quiet table, go to another restaurant or eat at home (don’t forget to turn the radio down).

Sooo true. Chop House has booths that are quiet and private. Country clubs are usually noisy. Ask the hostess which area is the quietest and don’t sit near the music. Wear earplugs and then text each other.

Most all of the music, whether in the squares, or country clubs is WAY TOO LOUD. I'm partially deaf, and have a hard time understanding people when there is background noise that is too loud. I sit at Dunkin Donuts when music is on at the square, and it's painfully loud, and none of us can have a decent conversation. The best time to talk is when the band is on a break. I did go to the Glenwood CC a couple of weeks ago and sat outside for dinner and music. The music was at a decent level, and I enjoyed the music, the food, and the conversation.
Ever check the db level at the squares? Even from 250 feet away, I've seen the db level around 100. Now that's loud.

Old people are sometimes hard of hearing; some people talk louder to make up for it. We do need more quiet places to dine in. Try the Rose Plantation, its quiet and has great food - and yes, it's more expensive...
