You: A coyote is killing ducks in Hadley. TV: We don't care. I kinda doubt it.

They do not even answer the phone anymore. If you call, all you get is a voicemail that says, "Please leave your message at the sound of the beep-beep." |

Just information, You are now living in Fla. (central to be exact). The land around us and the land your home was build on was cattle land and wilderness, even swamps, When the land was purchased, and construction started, these natural inhabitants for native animals in this area were being displaced. where can they go???? No place to hide, S. of 466A was the last of the hooray for them, and now there is no where, unless they can find their way to the natural wildlife preserves. I am so tired of people, saying trap these animals (gators, coyotes, bear, bobcats etc.) and they end up being killed. Live with it folks, understand their habits and needs, and just take caution, use the good common sense God gave you. Don't take your dog out at midnight and let it run free, don't allow your cat to run the neighborhood at night, you as a human if you are to walk early, take a light and a can of change, to deter with loud noises. All of these animals will flee from loud noises. As far as ducks and birds and rabbits being eaten, this is known as the balance of nature. Stop thinking you live in the city, this is Fla. not New York City, Chicago, Baltimore, or Philly. Leave them alone and let them have their space. Amen.

As God is my witness, I thought ducks could fly.

Some coyotes will run from loud noises, some do not. There was an earlier thread in which Villagers tried to scare away a coyote with whistles and such and it stayed. Coyotes are smart and quick to change their habits as are many breeds of dogs.
I carry golf balls when walking my dog at night in Lynnhaven as well as a whistle and a large flashlight. And the first thing I would do if a coyote approached is pick up my dog and scream as loudly as I can. I do think that your dog is much more likely to be attacked by another domestic dog, hit by a golf cart, or by a car than taken by a coyote but we should be aware of the danger especially in areas where the coyotes have lost their natural habitat. The older neighborhoods in the Villages see few coyotes, those that are quite newer though are getting a lot more sightings. If a coyote is identified as killing pets, then I do think that coyote should be killed. Hopefully, by someone that knows how to do this humanely. Two cats were taken off of a lanai and one dog was snatched in its front yard at 12:30 AM. |
