My 88 year old mother got a call from Bank of America last summer. They wanted to know if she moved to Texas. Someone called them saying they lost their card and wanted a new one sent to Texas. It came to BoA's attention because the person wanted a "deaf alert" on the card and Mom didn't have the alert on her accounts. BoA figured the person had Mom's' info and thought at her age she had a hearing problem. The funny thing is this card was in a safe place in our home and had never been activated. BoA implied that it might be an inside job and referred us to their fraud department.

Unfortunately, preying on the elderly is very lucrative in Florida, and The Villages is like the mother lode for these scammers. Everyday the newspaper has an article of some new scheme these crooks have come up with.
