Crime
I found this online mapping of crime in Marion County, Fl. It is really cool. I had to download an EIS Online mapping program in order for the map to work. It took about 30 seconds. I am going to copy and paste the map and the link to download the EIS mapping program. Take a look:
http://map.citizenserviceportal.com/...px?agency=MCSO This is the Marion County, FL, website. If the above link doesn't work, go to the link below. Look in the top banner under "Crime Mapping" and click and follow the directions to download the info. http://www.marionso.com/faq.php Also, Sumter County doesn't have the EIS mapping, but I found this site of interest/ Sumter County's most wanted: http://www.sumtercountysheriff.org/mostwanted.asp Here's Lake County recent arrests proved online by the Lake County Sheriff's Dept. Go to the left of the page when you open the link. Click on "recent arrest." It is a daily booking log. Click on the booking number, and see the crime. https://www.lcso.org/ Last edited by bkcunningham1; 07-11-2010 at 07:16 PM. |

Thanks Cuz. You always find good information.
I have a question though. That map appears to show only two "crime" incidents in TV portion of Marion County since the first of the year. One was a traffic violation and the other a lost wallet. Am I missing something? That doesn't seem possible. Last edited by Pturner; 07-11-2010 at 07:37 PM. |

Reload the map p or download the EIS from the sheriff's dept. page. Also, make sure the different crime indicators are clicked. You can edit the search criteria of crimes.

The copied and pasted link may not update correctly and you will need to go to the sheriff's dept. page and download the link under "Crime Mapping" on the left of the page. When I do it with the search criteria from Jan. 1, 2010 to present, I get so many indicators they are overlapping for the lower portion of Mairion County at Lady Lake.

Yep, even though I had all categories checked and had done a custom search, the info from the copied and pasted link was not accurate. Reloading the map from the Marion County Sheriff's website seems to work.
When I zoomed into the very small section of Marion County that's within TV, it looked like there were about 20 incident reports since the first of the year. Several of them said, "well being check-- senior citizen". Most of the incidents were not criminal reports. About what I would expect. |

BTW, I can explain one of the incident reports.
On our last trip to TV, my sister-in-law and her hubby, Gloria and Dennis, visited us. They parked the car in our driveway behind us. One day we all left the house in our car. Dennis pulled his car out of the driveway, waited for us to pull ours out, then pulled back in. Some time during all this, I ran back into the house to get something I forgot. Well, somehow this all looked suspicious to a neighbor, who called the sheriff's office to report a possible break in. The responding officer looked up Dennis, I guess from his AL license tag and called his home. We found this out when Dennis' son called Dennis to say the police down in Florida were looking for him and wanted him to call in. Dennis called in and the officer asked where he was and if he had been to our home and why. After Dennis explained, the officer asked to speak to my husband or me to verify the story, and that we really knew Dennis and were with him. My takeaway was: Wow, we have great neighbors for looking out for us and we have a great sheriff's department for their follow-up to determine what had happened. So I guess an incident report was generated. Needless to say, no charges were filed. |

I guess since nothing came back on your brother-in-law when they ran his tag, they called Dennis' residence in the chance he didn't know his car was missing.
Good neighbor and good police work. The Washington Post has a crime mapping program on their website similar to this one. When we lived outside DC, I looked and WOW. We lived in a truely gated golf cart community and still WOW. Crime in TV compared to an area like the DC beltway/metro area is a joke -- unless the crime happens to you.
