I've lived in TV for 6 years, VPL and this is the first meeting I've been able to attended. There are lots of people who post that might not be able to attend for various reasons. It was quite warm and the heat could also be bothersome for many.
There can always be other meetings for members to get together. Rec centers as a venue take planning and other locations might not want to offer space without a charge. Crispers does allow the use of their spacious patio, though in the heat.....whew....but I'm a bit more sensitive to warmth. Others can plan get togethers and in the past, it has been done. It's a nice way for some of the newest members of the TOTV community to meet others.

Wish you had been able to attend, it would be nice to meet you. It was a lovely group of people and I think you would have enjoyed meeting all of them.

So, where would you like to have a get together....

I wasn't able to attend the get-together on 9/21 but will be looking forward to the next one, now that I'm finally a full-time TV-er! So happy to finally be here and can't wait to be able to put faces to screen names!

All I ask is to be able to get in out of the sun. I'm one of those pale faces!

Anyway..we had a fun Freeze one night where we just froze on the dance floor, all of us from TOTV. We have had a halloween get together and a fireworks get together in public places in our golf cart. All you have to do is invite. Folks will come.

We missed you yesterday Villages Pl. It was a wonderful warm and friendly group and you missed a good time.
Absolutely Gracie, you're right on!!

No one tells you that you HAVE to come to the Crispers meeting, it was a way for all of us to meet and greet at one time a month and people who were coming in for the first time, could try to schedule their trip around that meeting.

IF,,, someone couldn't and really wanted to meet us, I (or others - like Gracie said) would organize an informal Meet and Greet and put it on the forum and those who wanted to come, would. We had meets at LSL under the clock, at Veranda (no longer there), at someone's house.

Although I know for myself, I very much enjoyed organizing these things, but it does take a lot of time. Making sure reservations are made, keeping track of who's coming, organizing the time and place... it takes a lot of effort.

VP, if you would like to take any of the suggestions made and organize a new venue, please be our guest. Everyone would be very happy to support your efforts. I usually get very few declines. As a matter of fact, I never get any unless people are out of town.

To answer why only 24 people attended, people post on this forum who are all over the country, maybe even the world. Not everyone is here in The Villages at that time. I think 24 is a great attendance and I think the most we had at one time was 50.

So, please, don't be shy, take one of the suggestions and run with it!! But I do hope to see you at one of the Crispers events in the near future.

Joaniesmom, I could be paler than you. We should compare our paleness next month at Crisper's.

Where would I like to have a get together? I'm not sure but, like you, I don't like sitting out in the heat. "Whew" is right! I started posting on this thread with the hope of facilitating those who made what I thought were good suggestions on the other Crispers thread. A bar was suggested and recreation-center room. I was just trying to encourage them to follow through with their ideas.

As for me, I'm not a social butterfly. Groups confuse me when there's no focus on anything other than "small talk". Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I would just sit and say nothing and then wonder why I went.

My wife and I hosted this last get together. Prior to this month we had been meeting inside at Crispers but being inside did not facilitate conversations between those there unless you were at the long table. There had been some comments about this and after seeing that the weather and love bugs were not too bad decided to hold it outside this month. We were sitting right by the door and whenever someone entered or exited the restaurant we got a rush of cool air which felt good. However, I'm glad that we had this months get together outside as it did facilitate conversations and we did enjoy the introductions of those there.

It was fine, kinda felt like sitting around a campfire.

But the idea of a section or room in bar type setting where you can walk around and mingle may be worth consideration, after the group broke up there were several of us that walk around striking up conversations which wasn't easy when sitting in the "round"

I've never been to a Crisper's lunch (we're new to TV, just last winter), but I agree that having it set up "campfire style" would facilitate conversation, especially with new people, better than having a few tables, a bar, or a long table that might not accommodate everyone. Also, it might be nice to have some initial activity that would draw out the new people who don't know anyone (MOI!!) Like some silly questionnaire-Mad Lib-type thing, or whatever. I'm not an event planner but, for instance, our church up north has a book in its library called "Ice Breakers," which contains questions or activities to draw people together that leaders use with a newly formed group.

I would really like to attend a lunch and would be willing to try to come up with something like this to help the host with an ice breaker, if you regulars are receptive to something like that. (Keeping in mind I'm the shy one! But I put myself in these kinds of situations on purpose in hopes that I might overcome that problem, Oh my.)

I am hosting October's meeting but would love to have you host November's meeting. All you have to do is be at Crisper's a little before 3:00 to set up tables. I will give you the left over name tags and pens and just provide a sign up sheet with name and screen name. Welcome everyone and have each person introduce themselves and a little about them. There is nothing to it. And, whatever you want to add to this just do it. Anything is appreciated to make the luncheon/meeting more enjoyable.
