We had Brighthouse cable for 14 years before moving to TV. We had DirectTV installed because Brighthouse wasn't available where we live. We are very happy with the clarity of the picture. The same television we used at our former address is much better with DirectTV. I don't mind putting up with the weather interruptions on occasion.

Hated the two years we were sentenced to Direct TV. Rain killed it every time. Back to Comcast and happy.

We have had satellite off and on for 15 years. Yes you do get rain fade during thunderstorms but it is usually for a every short time. We had less outages with satellite than cable.

Some people will never be happy with satellite. It is just "too new." Cable has been around forever, and it's what people are used to. Changing from something you are very used to is difficult.
We've had DirecTV for going on 15 years and love it. We love the ease of scheduling their DVR, and the sports channels, and the incredibly brilliant picture. I think I've mentioned before that the change was easier for us because we wanted to watch Steelers games, and they have NFL Ticket. And now they have Extra innings so we can watch all the Pirates games and catch some Tigers and Marlins games. So having a solid reason to change makes it easier. They'd have to go out of business before we would change.

Maybe 5 to 10 times a year a shower will be strong enough to interupt the reception for a few minutes. As stated before in several posts, switching to the backup channel, for example TNT channel 245, go to the alternate 245 and the program will reappear 9 times out of 10. If it doesn't, and you can stand seeing a black screen for a few minutes, I have over 500 hours of recorded programming. My Geni DVR from Directv will hold up to a 1000 hours. I have so many movies and shows recorded, I don't have time to watch them all. A rain interuption is sometimes a good thing. Also, the available programming is also unbeatable, I've never missed an NFL game of my favorite team. Been with Directv since 2008 and I wouldn't want anything else.

I'm surpised. We never had to do that. Actually, we never had a box break. But new equipment was brought to the house.
