Defective roof shingles
Has anyone had their Patio Villa built between 2004-2006 inspected for premature failure of roof shingles? How much did the inspection cost? Who did you call? Thanks.

We live in Calumet Grove, home built in 2003, in August before purchase we had roof inspected, it failed, blistering it was called, Owens Corning not budging, so we wound up splitting the cost of a new roof with previous owner for future replacement.
Owens sent us a letter, wanted me to get up on roof and removed 2 perfectly good shingles and mail them in a special way, plus outlandish other hoops to jump thru, & what am I supposed to replace the shingles with I just removed with that wont match?, when they are going to wiggle out of it anyway, or offer a percentage covered. And I just cant buy 2 shingles, I have to buy an entire package, NO Thanks, its a shame they wont stand behind their product, there is a class action suit right now against them. |

Roof Repair
Tuna 51,
My neighborhood has been going through this procedure for quite a while. These are homes that closed in 2006. Roofing is covered for five years from the date of your closing. First we called the Warranty office (753-6222); then as directed, called Owens Corning (1-800-766-3464) to get a claim number for Batterbee (the company that originally installed the shingles) Batterbee comes to your home to inspect your roof. 352-748-6300. Batterbee sends findings to Owens Corning and you will receive a reply from Owens in 3 or 4 weeks with a Claim No. You call Batterbee with the Claim No. to get the ball rolling on the repair. (Owens has sent their own reps here twice to do some of the inspections.) If there is damage, it is repaired (some of us are still waiting for the repairs) and then Owens Corning sends a check to you made payable to you and Batterbee for you to co-sign and give to Batterbee for payment of repair after the job is completed.

Roofs in TV
Soon after we moved into new home / new construction in TV, some of our neighbors found out that their roofs were defective.
One of our neighbors contacted Pat Digiola of A1 Home inspection and worked out a group rate for us. The amount we paid also went towards reducing the cost of our 1 year warranty inspections by A1. Best thing was that Pat did all the paperwork with TV warranty dept. for those whose roofs were defective. All the bad roofs were totally replaced. Seems like all the bad ones were in a certain color range. Hope this helps.

Here is a link to an article in the Home Owners Association Newsletter on blistering shingles.

As such, Owens Corning has extended its offer to replace Owens Corning™ Supreme® and Classic® 3-tab shingles where blistering was determined to affect the performance of the roof by providing material and labor to replace the defective shingles. This offer will extend through December 31, 2011, giving plenty of time for inspection and replacement.
ngles Replacing only those defective shingles is the key, thats fine, but how are you going to match up the color and shade difference?, gonna stand out like a sore thumb |
