The OP said in a PM that that did happen. I was very surprised. She also said the home they are building has some unusual additions.

This is only the second or third time I have heard that the developers have been unable to meet the time of closing on the contract.

I hope it all resolves itself and the gingersnaps are as happy as we G's once they take possession. The Snaps have lived here previously but must be moving full time. THAT is so much fun.

Not $500 a day.
I read it as (TV) sellers, paid the buyers $30 a day for there troubles.....food...housing...storage

Not the buyers paid the sellers (TV) $30 a day for the delay caused by TV....
am I mistaken?

I just remember when we bought the first time, looking for new, having a out of state credit union bank...we were told we would pay a huge amount per day...I remember 45 day closing was going to add $4500 to the sales price and would not qualify for the discounted home sales price if we didnt close within the 30 days......nonsense...we bought a resale....set closing when we wanted.

Thanks for answering, Gracie. Did they say how long The Villages sales office wanted to delay the closing?

We signed a contract for a new house on July 13 and they gave us a closing date of Sept 29. Even though our new house will have no "unusual additions", we are not going to hold them to that exact date. We are realistic and have made plans that will allow them to delay the closing for a few weeks.

I was down there for an LPP in June. The sales person I use said it is now over a 2 month wait to get into the design center and then an additional 7 months to get a house built. He said it is the longest timeframe he has ever seen. He said delays are being caused because TV cut their staffing for designers, Project Managers and builders because they thought they were built out. It could be the delays are being caused by these staffing issues. BTW, he did say they are in the process of hiring because of the new Village they are going ot build offsite.

We happened to be here in TV (from PA) for a few days of R&R when we got the call. This turned out to be a working vacation! We are well aware of what our contract reads, but we have issues that are not covered in the contract. Certainly we want our new home do be properly finished, but we want to be treated fairly as well.

Here's the real kicker...they are telling us they will only pay for 30% of the move of our items coming out of storage. Really? I don't think so! We didn't ask that they be put in storage. Why should we pay for 70% of the second move? Many of the items we had planned to move on our own w/o boxing them. It is now our responsibility to obtain/purchase more boxes, bubble wrap, tape, etc., not to mention our time doing it all while here on "vacation". The mover we have already contracted with does not provide storage space. Therefore, we must run around looking at rental spaces for our entire household. We also have cars which they are putting in storage for us.
Per the request, we are obtaining estimates, etc to present to TV management. We are not asking for the moon, but we aren't about to pay more to move than previously planned. I simply put this inquiry out here to ascertain info from others that may have had the same problem.
I'm sure you have already considered this, but I'll state it anyway ... It's time to consult an attorney.

I am sorry I confused you. I (the buyer) had to pay the Villages (the seller) $30 a day to avoid coming down at Christmas. My post was in response to your post saying that the Villages charge buyers $500 a day to delay closing beyond 30 days. Your post is incorrect.

We bought new 2 years ago. The penalty was $500 a day for every day past closing date payable to TV.

Just thought I would post a follow-up on our delayed closing. We closed on our new home on Friday, Sept 9th, two weeks after the original closing date. We are happy to report that everything worked out, and, The Villages took good care of us while we were "homeless". Our builder indicated that our home is the first time in his 22 years as a builder that he didn't make a closing date. However, it was not his fault as there was an architectural problem. All is well that ends well!
