I read in TV Newspaper recently that they are working on including a Digital Villages ID as part of The Villages App. You would then be able to use the ID on your phone to check in at golf courses, rec centers, etc., instead of using your card. I don't see where they are considering a digital check-in process, probably for the reasons you give.

Going to auto open gates would reduce a bunch of the data that both TV and I assume the County and Police use. Until they move to a bar code or other "reader" technology I don't see them moving to a proximity system.
