You can use the "Search" at the top of the screen and put in Directv or Dish and you'll get the low-down on what people think of both services. I've had both Dish and Directv and find that I like Directv much better. We've had it now for about 7 years. We had it installed in our Villages home last February. We also have it in our motor home. The DVR receiver is awesome!

Go to the website and look around. http://www.directv.com- I think you'd be happy. If you decide to go that way, maybe you know someone that has Directv and they can make the referral. It'll save you $100 and that's nothing to sneeze at. Of course that person also gets a credit for making the referral.

OK. Dumping Comcast and getting new TV service is one thing. What does everyone that dumps Comcast doing for high speed internet and phone service?

Use the "Search" tab at the top of the page and type in words like Directv Internet Comcast or whatever you're looking for like Dish Network Embarq DSL and you'll see that this has been discussed many, many times. There is lots of good stuff on TOTV over the years.

I have Directv and I use a Verizon's Wireless Broadband card in my laptop for Internet because it's also very useful when we are traveling. It's a little pricey, but I'm worth it. $60,00 a month.

You'll find an earlier thread where Talk Host thinks it sucks! ... you'll also get counter-opinions! Talk Host also thinks that trains suck! ... but don't get him going or he'll bring all of our property values down. We still like him though.

I doubt that having Dish TV will bring your property values down.

Default Satellite & high-speed internet

I picked Dish solely because of price, when purchased through the phone company (Embarq). For high-speed internet service, you can either get DSL from the phone company...price varies with the speed you pick...or continue to use Comcast just for the internet, at two price/speed levels.

Default switch

At some point you will switch to Direct TV for a more reliable service and less down time. Also the Direct equipment is superior to Dish.

After two years with Dish and much down time I changed and the difference is remarkable.

People who have trouble with Direct TV may not have read the directions or understood them. It is as close to flawless as you can find.

It also pays to upgrade your receiver every two or three years. All it is is a computer. And improvements are made all the time .

I'm glad you had a good experience. My downtime with Direct TV was intolerable. First, they hooked it up wrong and I spent two months without HD. During that two months, the receiver hard drive crashed and I had to send it back to wherever. It was a week before I got the new receiver and had to hook it up myself. I was an hour on the phone with customer support and they couldn't figure out how to make it work. Finally, a high level support staff was able to determine that it was sent to me way out of whack.

Every time, and I mean every time, it rains, the signal is lost completely. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes to get it back. WHAAAAAAAAA! It's always the last 10 minutes of the program or sporting event I am watching.
