Discouraging "mud wasps"
The "mud wasps" (not their scientific name but what I call them) have been very busy this summer and have built several hives above our front door. I knock them down, spray with a hose and pressure wash, but they keep coming back ... has anyone found an effective way to discourage them?

One of the better reasons we screened in the front entrance way. This added feature allows us to open the front door and rear windows to get a nice breeze through the house those few days in spring and fall. To screen in the front entrance way with a nice piano hindged screen door was less than $800.It could be $600 with a cheaper door.

.........."C-4"......... my Mom told me "The future is in Plastics".....but I did not listen....... Now I am stuck using "DAWN" Liquid Detergent.... from a squirtgun.....LEAVE it ON for three days, then hose it off.

Jim Straz, that was a very funny comment about the Golddiggers.

mrfixit- will that remove the leftover "mud" that sticks to the stucco? I've tried scraping that off without much success.

Bugs lived here before us and they will still be here long after we are gone!

What you call "mud wasps" are not wasps, they do not sting, they just build annoying ugly mud nests. When I was a little girl they were called "dirt dobbers."

We have an exterminator with a yearly contract on our home in Miami and found that to be a must-have. Is that necessary in TV?

Are you suggesting DAWN as a deterrent or to remove the mud hives ... or both ...

Yes, it is necessary unless you handle it yourself. Also, I think yearly termite prevention is essential.

otherwise the "mud-daubers" will rebuild...... in the same spot. Not all the daubers are building the hut at the time you remove it. When they later return to an "intact" hut coated with DAWN.......well.....lets just say ....ALL insects HATE the stuff. |
