We have an older Sony Bravia flat-screen TV that is no longer functional. It is probably fixable. We would like to donate to an appropriate organization that might put it to good use. Can anyone suggest an appropriate way to get it to someone who can use it?

We also have a Sony soundbar (with sub-woofer), also not currently working, that would like to donate. Any suggestions for these two items?

Don't know of any organization that takes non-working items around here. Suggest you leave them curb with a sign saying, "broken but fixable." Odds are someone will happily pick it up and try to repair them. If not, the garbage people will take them when the time comes.

We bought a Sony Bravia flat-screen TV and before a year was up, it died. I contacted Sony and found out that was still under warranty. They would send me a new one with a 1 year warranty or a rebuilt one with a 2 year warranty, we chose the 2 year.

Come to find out, it is a known issue and a very easy repair. Before throwing it out, talk to a Sony repair person, or go to the Sony site.

You might find that it is worth fixing.

I agree with Redwitch... we have set a number of broken/old TV's at the curb and they were magically gone within hours!

Agree that you should put it by the curb with a note and see if someone wants to try and fix it. If it is not taken, please recycle it. If the garbagemen take it, it justs ends up in the landfill.
Best Buy on 441 has a recycle program. It accepts flat screens up to 60" and tube TV up to 32" There are other recycle stations close to The Villages also.

I've been wondering myself where the landfill is that would be for the "stuff" of those who live in THE VILLAGES???

We've been disposing of a lot of "stuff" to the Salvation Army store, but things like computers and t.v.'s are now difficult to dispose of, due to toxic contents.

Our garbage men , who have known us for forty plus years, also will take things like that.......even though they are not supposed to.....

Or....our landscaper will take it to the landfill for us (and they charge him a small fee to accept it).....

When he retired two years ago, hubby decided to replace all of our older t.v.'s with thin big screen t.v.'s in all the various rooms..........and we ordered Direct TV satellite.........well, even the young fellow didn't want FREE "OLD" televisions............but the Direct TV technician was nice enough to help hubby carry in the new t.v.'s.........it was a long long day,but we lucked out with a very nice Direct TV guy.........we finally talked him into taking some of the older t.v.'s and our landscaper took the rest to the landfill...........they all worked, just were fatter and bulkier.

We all contribute so much to the landfills.....it is sad. A disposable society.
Our local senior daycare facility often will take older things for their residents.........

Where is the VILLAGES LANDFILL? Which quadrant of TV????

Google 'Best Buy Recycling' For specifics. They take almost all electronics. Best Buy will take up to three items per day per person. No need to put at curb and hope someone takes it.

The Villages does not have it's own landfill. The Lady Lake landfill is on Jackson Street in Lady Lake, just off Rolling Acres Road.
