![]() Is there anyone out there in TOTV cyberspace that has any insight into the "Do Not Call" list?
Any time we have moved, I have always registered our phone number on that list. I've even registered our cell phones, as well, although I'm not really sure it works for cell phones. I have even reported phone numbers but that, too, doesn't seem to matter. After moving here to TV, the phone calls have been ongoing. What good is that list? It doesn't work!

I have Comcast phone service and just block the numbers. Seems you'll get a number of calls each day from the same number....blocking seems to work.
I agree that the Do No Call registry doesn't seem to work very well, if at all.

I have a suspicion that Comcast sells numbers. I had the same problem. It was solved by getting rid of Comcast

Why do you think that? Did you keep the same phone number when you switched to whatever service you are with currently?

I put my kids on the Do Not Call list. Worst mistake, now they come by when they want something.

I have a Panasonic phone and can block up to 30 numbers - filled that up in no time flat. Sometimes when I block one number, same telemarketer calls again - maybe one digit in the number is different. I occasionally just push speaker phone and walk away. I've registered on that list more than once - it is useless. My sister cancelled her landline and solved the problem. She has never received a telemarketer call on her cell in over a year. I might do the same thing. Too bad one has to resort to that!

As I recall the do not call list was generated in Washington DC, not only is it flawed, in that surveys, give always, etc. are exempt, I have yet to hear of someone prosecuted under this law. Drop a note to your senator or representative and let them know that you are disappointed that the law is so poorly written and not enforced

I regularly sign up for the Do Not Call List for all my phones and it has never stopped tele-markters
I have used blocking on COMCAST and that doesn't work. I called Comcast and asked for help and that didn't work. We are being inundated with calls from everywhere and sit helplessly looking at our called ID waiting for the phone to stop ringing. Its harassment and these companies should get sued |

One way to keep my phone number "out of circulation" is to not give it away if at all possible . . . say I am filling out a form and they want my phone number. If it is really unnecessary for them to have it, I put my area code plus 555-1212. Same at Target, or other department stores that ask for my telephone number when checking me out. The clerk sometimes gives me a dirty look, sometimes an amused one, what do I care?
I rarely answer my phone if I don't recognize the number, but if I accidentally do I always tell them to remove me from their list and then after hanging up immediately block the number. As an aside, I have a Verizon air card, which is also associated with a telephone number, and someone is regularly sending it messages that they are withdrawing $230.45 out of my checking account. This happens about once a week. I don't know who they think they are sending that message to, but no money is being taken out of my account. I just delete the messages.

Even up north, the 'do not call' does not work. We do have caller ID and if we do not recognize the number or caller, we don't answer. In the past, we have had callers tell us that they are a charity so the do not call rules do not apply. One other thing is that the same people may call day and night to see when you are home. We have picked up the phone in the past and no one was on the other end of the line or you would hear a click as they hung up. So when in doubt, don't answer.
