For a good explanation of Milorganite, go here Milorganite - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The development of Milorganite was a huge recycling project that has been going on for decades.
They claim it is "baked clean," I guess like those bags of cow manure sold at the nurseries that we all used around our flower and tomato plants. Whether that's what they're using on the golf course, I can't say. It does say in the article that it is used extensively by golf courses. |

Well, that does it, my dogs are no longer going to be allowed to pee/poop anywhere south of 466.

Unfortunately, I cannot tell you it's exact location because I've been held to secrecy as to it's precise location under the penalty of their returning my sanity, but I can tell you that where it is located, you'll find lush lovely plant life abounds in it's immediate location! Gotta run now! My handlers are taking me in for my next treatment. ![]()

![]() Did you not read the other posting that explained exactly what was causing the smell. I personally know what it was because as I stated earlier, we were playing golf in the smell and one of the guys picked up a piece about the size of a tennis ball. One whiff was all it took to know exactly what it was. |

You couldn't be more wrong. There is quite a difference in human waste and dead fish. I continue to post that I was part of a group playing golf in that horrible smell. The fairways were covered in fine pellet size dark material. That particular day the humidity was 100% when we started the round of golf. The humidity was what caused the smell to be released from the substance being applied as fertilizer. IT WAS NOT FISH KILL !!!! On some of the holes there was no water within a half mile, but the smell was just as strong as every other location. Do you really think the golf division or the Daily Sun would admit that we Villagers were playing golf atop human waste ??? If you do, then I have a snow plow here in Florida I would like to sell you. |

DANG. This whole subject stinks and so do attitudes on it. I think we aren't for sure that it was the fertilizer or the fish kill or what it was and we haven't heard from the smellers south of 466A whether they are still smelling it. Still? Do you think it is a STILL? I never thought of that. Lordy...have you noticed how we like to fuss and have the last word on this forum?? And some people like me don't know when to shut UP!!!!

![]() I didn't smell it while running BV/Hillsborough Trail, even though that area is fairly close to the wetlands. Don

What prevents this from getting into our groundwater? How about the sprinkler water at our homes? The water at the outside spigots?
I've always found the water thing here kind of confusing, does the water from the sprinklers come from the golf course runoff, how about the sewer thing in the street, where does this go? Am I the only one repulsed by this?

Played Bonifay this AM and the strong odor around the club house chocked me. As we played out further the smell evaporated. I have not experienced this strong an odor elsewhere in The Villages????????????????????

Of all people, I like to be first to blurt out an opinion with no clue what I'm talking about. I thought I'd just wait for something substantial and let this settle down and then find out what happened. didn't smell it or walk in it or golf in it.
This is STILL an amazingly helpless thread. apparently there is no official verification what happened or why altho we know where. So is nobody following up with somebody in charge? |
