Nope...no sirens. But, between weather radios, Sumter "Code Red" phone notification, local TV/radio, and Orlando meteorologists (and TOTV and Facebook), there are plenty of sources for impending bad weather.
The best solution is the weather radio. We don't like hearing that blaring tone in the middle of the night, but, it could save your life. Prior to the 2/2/2007 tornado, there was a gap in weather broadcast coverage such that most of the Villages could not receive weatehr radio notifications. Between contributions from VHA and fasttracking the approval process, a new, high powered antenna was installed in Sumter Co by July of that year. Here's an article from wesh.com on feasibility (or not) of installing sirens in FL: http://www.wesh.com/weather/10284564/detail.html

Sumter County also has a code red alert system that automatically dials your phone.
This can be your home phone and also your cell phone. Free sign up is available at https://cne.coderedweb.com/ |

We get those weather alerts on our phone and I like that. The house is pretty sound proof.

I suggest the emergency weather radio AND the Code Red phone notification system. I have my emergency weather radio set to Sumter County only so I do not get all the Marion and Lake County alerts.
Both systems give enough warning times that you have time to grab your video camera and get to the middle of the golf course to get a good video of the tornado so yours can be the first one on WESH 2 News. |

My bad on that link I posted. I didn't see that it would only let you select NY.
Bombero's is correct. I corrected the link in my post so as not to confuse anyone else. Thanks! Bill ![]() |

I registered anyway and it allows you to test the phone number. It works. Maybe NY is just the central location?
