Default dog attacked and killed at Brinson-Perry dog par while leaving park

Our dog Buddy was attacked by a much larger dog while trying to exit the small dog side of the park yesterday around 12PM. The owner of the dog was parked in front of the gate to the park. Had Nebraska plates 52-f809. Our 10 pound dog died today from a damaged colon. I left the park thinking my dog had not been mortally injured. He died in surgery today. The dog that attacked him was at least 150 pounds and the owner did not control it.. The car they were driving is a black suburban. I just want these people to know what damage their dog has done. I will be filing a police report and only hope to make them aware that their dog is a killer.

So sorry, that why I don’t got to dog parks. I also think you should have called LEO the when it happened. Anytime I see large dog and owner looks they can’t control when I can’t avoid them by distance I pick my dog up.

Sorry to hear that. My over confident Chihuahua terrier mixed decided to face off with a first timer dog at Doggie Doo Run Run who was also just acquired by its owner. The dog was a pitbull of some kind. My pooch got lucky and the pit bull mix only grabbed his leg with his jaws but did not bite down. We got lucky.

This was years ago though.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Some people like them have no business being a dog owner as they can't control their dog and don't do the right thing by running off.

I am truly saddened by this tragedy. My deepest condolences.

Please do file a police report asap. Animal control needs to get involved. They are also 100% responsible for all your vet costs, and the replacement cost for your dog. Although that won't ever be enough for your loss, it is something that sends a clear message to the other dog owner.

In case that plate number is not accurate, with all the cameras at the gates, this vehicle should be able to be found, and the plate verified. Let Community Watch prove to us that they are useful for something.

Please keep us updated.

Hopefully there was witnesses and video. What a terrible way to loose a pet.

How does that happen?

I've been to Brinson-Perry, 100' s of times. There's really no way to park in front of the gates, I've never seen that happen. The entrance is a split/segregation gate and dogs should be leashed/unleashed only inside the segregation unit. There should never be an opportunity for dogs of disparate size to interact, at least not without being leashed.

I have seen big dogs at Doggie Doo Run Run pretty much pull their handlers a few feet .

We did go to B-P on occasion but did not like the slopes involved. Plus there seemed to be cliques of dog owners .

Fine the dogs that misbehave and put down the owners that can't, or won't control and leash their dogs.
ZERO tolerance! NO excuses!

The officer could only tell me the name of the person was Mark Hartman or Harman. He could not find a phone number to reach this individual. They did not appear to be from the Villages and were parked directly across from the gate. I have a picture of the vehicle and will try and add it to this post. Not feeling very confident that this individual will be found. I don't know if the villages camera systems or the fire station camera's that the park is directly behind will be
available for my pursuit of this beast of a dog and it's owner. I don't know if he had a leash on the thing or not and the inside gate was open. The dog burst through the out gate and grabbed my dog. If I had just picked buddy up this may have all not happened. I to have been to that park hundreds of times.

It was a 2016 black chevrolet Taho. Nebraska plates 52-f809. I do intend to sue them for the thousands in medical expense trying to save Buddy but my real desire is for them to Know what happened. Buddy looked ok when we left the park. I just wanted away from the individuals. His wife did apologize and hoped he was ok. Makes me think it wasn't the first time that dog did something like this.

If you had tried to pick Buddy up, you might have been attacked and been killed of direct or indirect injuries as a result.
