I was just at a client's house who has a doggy door insert on their sliding glass door. It appears to be very easy to put on/remove and the dogs (two Westies) love it. The nice part is that this means no holes in the wall or door. I did get curious and looked online and found some for under $200.

My daughter has a sliding doggie door insert with a lock. It's great and very easy to put in and take out. She's very happy with it.

I had one for 4 1/2 years and loved it. It worked for my dog and cat. It's very easy to put on and take out for cleaning the sliding glass door. We ordered ours on-line for $200.00 and I believe we didn't have to pay any shipping. Who knows about now though!!!!!! I also saw them at Petco just a week or so ago. Hope this helps.

We've had ours for several years. It's been a blessing. When we had a chihuahua, he could use it, and my daughter's English Sheepdog even managed to get himself through it.
When the plastic "door" wore out, we found replacements at one of the local pet stores. It is easy to put up or take out if need be.

My son put a doggy door in his back screen door, and he's not very "handy" with tools.

My friend Pat has a doggie door in the slider. It is an amazing thing. It works well, and was not that much money.

Not pertaining to a slider, I now have one in my laundry room that leads to the garage where I have the box enclosed in a 4' X 2' area with a hinged top. I can go into the garage and clean the litter box simply by opening the top. No litter in the house! It's wonderful. If you want to see a picture, e-mail me at Luthur@aol.

Zummy, I've had doggie doors in my sliders for at least the past 15 years if not more. Mine, however, weren't easy to take in and out, they were more stationery, so it was difficult to clean the total slider window and sometimes looked unsightly. Good to make sure you can easily remove it.

I didn't pay much for mine, probably under $150 and the replacement flaps are easy to find also. I have trained many of my new puppies easily to go outside and do their duty rather than do it on my carpet. And, the older dogs always train the new guys how to use it. Works wonders.

Actually my daughter-in-law squeezed through there once, too, when she forgot her key. Don't know how she did it - it's not a big opening and, while she's small, it must have been a tight squeeze.

My wife and I have had two doggie doors for our beagle. Because we first rented we had to buy a second door to put the doggie door in and then left it when we bought a home. It had a very thin aluminum kickplate but was easily installed.
The second one was a differant story. The home we bought has an insulated Lanai with vinyl sliding windows. The door itself is also insulated on the sides and at the bottom. Unfortunately, this insulation makes the door about 3-4 inches thick and the bolts for the doggie door were plastic. Also the door is not removable from the frame. I made a real mess out of it but the door is functional now after I went to HD and bought a threaded
bolt that I cut with my sabr saw to use in place of the plastic bolts.
Suggestion though. Had I ti do this again with an insulated door, me thinks I'd spend the $40-60 to have it done professionally!
