Default Are dogs allowed outside at Up th Creek restaurant?

Someone told me that dogs are allowed on the patio outside Up the Creek restaurant. I hope this isn't true. If it is I'll never eat at that restaurant again. I like dogs but these sorry people who can't leave their dogs home long enough to go and eat are sicko!

I do not know the answer to your question as far as Up The Creek goes. I do know that Florida passed a law, within the past year or so, that allows restaurants with outside dining areas to make their own decisions as to whether animals (other than service animals) will be allowed in the area. This applies ONLY to outside/outdoor eating areas - they are still never allowed inside a restaurant. Anyway, Up The Creek management can make their own decision and it will be perfectly legal. What decision they may have made, I do not know. I do know that Rudy Tuesdays at SS allows dogs onto their outside eating area.

Default dogs in outdoor resturants

Florida was the first to enact a law explicitly allowing dogs in outdoor areas of restaurants. Sheri McInvale, the former state representative who introduced the legislation, says the biggest opposition to the bill had to do with concerns over dog bites and fights, not health issues. The final bill signed into law contained a provision that restaurants had to carry a minimum level of liability insurance in order to participate in the program.

QUOTED!
"Many restaurant operators, in a tough spot with conflicting ADA restrictions, city health codes, and attitudes of dog-loving patrons, often take their chances and look the other way."

dogs who are used as site dogs are still exempt I would assume

I personally love dogs would not mind if one were to show up and be a good boy or girl while dining out on a patio somewhere ie... laying down and chillin...but would prefer not. just my opinion.
ps I love dogs!!!!

If a restaurant allows dogs in any eating area, I won't eat there.

I suggest you never travel to Europe where dogs in resturants are quite normal. I'm sure Up the Creek will survive without you business.

Default Such emotional reactions...I suppose the same reactions

would come forth if someone asked about kids 5 and under. I would almost bet that a dog owner who would take their dog, knows his is trained/disciplined to be in such a place. And we all know that is not the case with the kids. I LOVE KIDS!!!!
Of course I am just stirring the pot. I am always inspired when someone burps out or places people in a self proclaimed, not very nice (or well thought out) category such as:

"I like dogs but these sorry people who can't leave their dogs home long enough to go and eat are sicko!"

One can easily be emphatic without being derogatory....if one cared enough to do so....eh? The beauty of the 1st amendment in action.

But they are at all outside bistro and "open air" restaurants. You may not have noticed them because they are well behaved and accustomed to the situation. You'll even find them at department stores and other locations where in America they wouldn't be allowed.

If one is walking their dog, and a restaurant has an outside area where you can stop, have a snack, even give your dog some water, then that place gets my money all the time. If Up The Creek provides such an outside area,
kudos to them!

You must have been visiting large "tourist" resturants in Europe. As someone who has lived in Germany for a number of years and travelled to other european locations, I can tell you bringing your dog to a "local" or outside eating establishment was quite the norm. I will also tell you that the dogs I did see were "very" obedient, trained whatever you want to call it. They were not begging, jumping on people, or barking. Its an entirely different culture.

As far as an outside location here in TV, I would have no problem with a well behaved dog laying beside the table while its master is eating. Those who object can always dine iniside. Hopefully everybody is happy.

Up The Creek allows well-behaved dogs on their outside patio in the side area. Not in the back area overlooking the water. Gators allows dogs on their outside patio. Crispers and many other eateries allow dogs on their outside patios. Very civilized I think. The dogs have no contact with the tables or eating utensils.

Of course, it is important that owners supervise their dogs closely and remove them if they are not well behaved.

Mich, it is difficult to believe that you like dogs after your comment: "I like dogs but these sorry people who can't leave their dogs home long enough to go and eat are sicko!"

RV Roadie, I love your reply.

One reason I love Key West - in many of the restaurants people bring their dogs. As long as the dogs sit quietly by the table I do not see a problem.

I have never taken a dog to a restaurant (mine were never well behaved enough and would have been like Marley). I would much rather have a dog at the next table than some buffoon shouting on his cell phone trying to impress everyone in the rest of the restaurant. Geez, if you are that important, stay home and take your calls or get your food to go.

Well I think we have to agree "Europe" allows dogs and I think were mature enough to realize on that particular day when YOU might want to visit a restaurant that allows the pooches outside and you happen to see one outside that might offend you, you can eat inside or at one of the many other eatery places The Villages has to offer.
Sometimes it just best to "smile" and move on but...

I do agree with billetkid comments:
One can easily be emphatic without being derogatory....if one cared enough to do so....eh? The beauty of the 1st amendment in action

Default Dogs in Restaurants

I am not a dog lover, although I can tolerate a well behaved one and do believe that they are a comfort and benifit to the right owner. I have been reading the posts on dogs in outside eating areas, both pro and con. While I do not personally choose to dine with a dog next to me, I do feel that one has the option of asking to be moved to another table or dining inside. It should not be a major problem LIVE LIFE and BE HAPPY!
