We spent a lot of time in the Florida Keys and Key West. Dogs were always welcome INSIDE Sloppy Joe's and other watering holes. Maybe Key West did secede from the State of Florida and the United States to become the Conch Republic. I don't have a dog in this debate but recall the pooches in Sloppy Joe's and Captain Tony's being laid back and well behaved, even more so than some of the clientele. Anybody been there lately? Are they still allowing dogs inside?

Default My Son

took a vacation in Key West this winter and, yes, there were dogs in the restaurants. He is a dog lover, so lots of his pictures included the dogs, both in restaurants and playing on the beach.

We, too, have seen dogs in restaurants in Europe and in department stores. In Switzerland, we saw them on the trolleys. I think the dogs there are very well behaved. In Torremolinas, Spain, people walk their dogs without leashes and we never saw one misbehave.

Of course I don't mean "real" service dogs. I do object strenuously to the new fad of "fake" service dog signs on non service dogs. People who are doing this just so they can take their pets into pet restricted areas, should be arrested.

I agree with you 100% there is nothing more annoying than sitting in a restaurant and some person is talking on their cell phone so that the whole restaurant has to listen to their conversation. In some cases dogs have more manners than than people.

Aren't we mixing two different things here? People talking on cell phones in restaurants has nothing to do with allowing dogs in eating areas. The two issues are not related as far as I can see.

Default Dog owners getting more and more obnoxious!

These dog owners are getting out of control. Dogs are not allowed on the town squares. Yet dozens of wackos bring their dogs to the square, Some even take them on the dance floor and dance with them. They can't go out for a bite to eat without taking their dog. The Marion market has big signs up, 'No dogs allowed'. But people bring their dogs. Pushing them around in little baby buggies, for crying out loud. They walk their dogs by my house and let them pee in any yard they want. They ride them around in their golf carts. And my favorites are the overweight people who ride in the cart while the little dog huffs and puffs along side. Don't you people have a life? If you could only hear the comments you get from the rest of us as you push your little buggies around or dance with your dogs.

Well, I don't shave my armpits and I'll betcha Talk Host doesn't either. And I'd be willing to bet that Chuck doesn't even do that. Sounds gross. But what it has to do with dogs being in restaurants is beyond me. Are they maybe scared off by the sound of the razor, like with a vacuum cleaner?

Anyway, I'm not sure about dogs at Up the Creek, but the horse at this thread is sure dead, beaten senseless.

I was going to say the same thing about Europe. I remember the first time I visited Paris and saw the well behaved dogs sitting next to their owners knee in all of the restaurants. I later asked the cab driver...Why are French dogs and French children so well behaved? He answered. "We beat them".

I know he was kidding but........

I think that the majority of people in the villages have pets. . I see that as a lovely thing.

Nothing wrong with kindness anyway you see it.

Where is it stated that dogs are not allowed at the town squares?? As a newbie and a junior poster here on TOTV..... you will quickly realize that calling people "Wackos" simply because you disagree with with something they do or believe in will not get you far on TOTV or in the Villages itself.

BTW I shave my dog..at least for the summer!!!
