Sounds like fun, just to see Halle dance like Britney! Unfortunately we don't arrive until mid November, or else we'd be there. Pammy, I sure hope you and Doug arrange another Happy Hour after the Birds all arrive.

One thing that unnamed forum got me accustomed to was being ridiculed anytime disagreed. NOT COMMENTS SAYING WHY THEY DISAGREED, just ridicule as it appears is the case here.

The mocking tones, etc are not something I have experienced as a grownup. We all have likes and dislikes, and I always assumed they would be respected...it appears on here that is not the case.

I only commented because I lost someone to a person who simply had that "few drinks" and was not drunk. I have seen the ravages of homes destroyed by those few drinks to take off the edge in a few roles I served in up north. I have seen those fun evenings that require booze to enjoy turn into death and destruction.

I never suggested people should stop drinking.....never even hinted at it. Simply agreed with some other posters about making light of drinking, and suddenly I am on a soapbox.

I sure wish I had all the answers to everything as espoused by some who do not even disagree as adults, but simply ridicule.

Sounds like fun .. I think some said 5 or 5:30.
It is always fun to associate with people that think alike.

Golfingnut 10-03-2013 11:49 AM

This is post number 49.

There are only 5 that indicate a problem with drinking.

That is 90% for and only 10% think wrong.
 the 5 should not drink, but stop picking on us boozers. And turning an otherwise fun thread into a nasty one.

I think the point is if folks are yucking it up they don't appreciate someone putting a damper on the fun

It actually bothers me watching ballgames and seeing young fathers with their sons gulping the beer making it ok for the kid.

I know it is made light of on here and other places, but if the first thing you need is a drink...well, just think about it. Maybe a party pooper but NEEDING a drink is a bit scary dont you think ? If you are unable to enjoy yourself except for a few under your belt, then perhaps there are other problems to be addressed.

I agree with what you and Jim9922 have said. I would just add this: It's especially sad when it's combined with obesity. And people encourage it as though drinking is something to be proud of. It's no different than what I observed in high school. For some it continues in college and beyond.
And here we are in retirement and it's still going strong. I think it's an addiction that we all pay for, in one way or another.

I lost an 18 year old sister to a drunk driver, but that doesn't give me the right to lecture others on the ravages of drinking. I see nothing wrong with adults drinking responsibly. I'd think that Drinking and Posting is a pretty harmless pastime.

If I began a thread about a substance that is constantly used to abuse, perhaps not by you, but started this thread and mentioned how it affected my brain when typing....someone posted that when they read them the next day, they cannot believe they said that......anyway, started this thread and the substance they were all giggling about the mind altering affects took the life of a loved one.....and someone else found the jokes offensive...would you support them as I did ? Would you expected to have ridicule as a result ?

As opinionated as I am, I never ridiculed anyone for disagreeing with me... not made fun of them. And again, for the record, I simply agreed with a poster who found it a bit uncomfortable.....the entire and total posting would have been avoided save the sarcastic, the belittling attitude expressed in the posts....nothing more would have been said.

Again, not my intent to rain on a parade, but it is also not to allow my attitude and sensitivity to be mocked as someone who does not like fun or whatever else there is to come.

Would you expect to be referred to as someone who needed a soapbox ?

I simply supported two other posters and am glad I did.

I ask you to think about my questions and put someone who you love in the cross hairs of the joking about the mind altering affects..typing, remembering, etc...how booze is the centerpiece of having fun.

I did not start the back and forth but I will not back off as long as the ridicule continues.....obviously as the "scorekeeper" mentioned there were a few who have problems with the giggles and laughs associated with the mind altering affect.......I certainly would respect that and not ridicule it.

Sorry to be such a wet blanket....death to a loved one does that to you ! BUt only when folks find it funny what killed them !

Fair enough.....a question...when folks joke and such about the mind altering affects it has on them that does not bother you at all ?

And I never ever lectured...simply supported someone who had a nerve touched

It is a bad bad addiction and when you NEED it to have fun...it IS an addiction.

But it is legal, thus its fine, but making light of the mind altering things it does just is a bit dicey to me. Would we support discussing how neat it was to get high on drugs ? Based on what I read, maybe I suppose.

Have you noticed that there are many Alcoholic Anonymous meetings listed in the Rec news. Alcoholism is on the rise among seniors and that ain't a fun thing. If I upset your happy hour so be it.....

salferg 10-03-2013 01:05 PM

Is Sweetie your husband or your dog:) ?

Golfingnut 10-03-2013 01:11 PM

I find that I post differently when posting in the morning from posts made later in the day after a drink or two. Anyone else give me a hell yea on that?

The above is my OP.

It is shameful how two or three posters has turned this into a hate post about people that enjoy a cocktail. They are not drunken murderers. They are friends so lighten up. Geeeeeezzzzzz. Believe it or not, there is not a conspiracy behind every thread. I started this thread for fun. No cloak and dagger stuff intended at all.

Jaggy 10-03-2013 01:19 PM

How in the world does that relate?? ": It's especially sad when it's combined with obesity"" Let's see who else we can insult??
