I think if a person drinks responsibly they are not inclined to brag about it on the internet. "Drinking responsibly" and "bragging about it" just doesn't seem to go together. If someone needs a mind-altering-drug to loosen up and become uninhibited, I think that's a bad sign. They are drinking for a mind altering effect. So what happens when it wears off? The person feels down and can't wait for the next time.

A very popular ex-president was a social drinker and ended up with Alzheimer's dementia. (Oh, boy, now I stepped in it.) :duck:

That's not so surprising when you realize how many drinking establishments there are in The Villages. Has anyone ever counted how many there are, especially around the squares? It's a magnet that pulls in drinkers from all over the U.S..

My father was an alcoholic but did not lose his memory or sanity or develop Alzheimers at the time of his death at 90. He lost respect, money and a lot of good times, but all of us are old enough to know what alcoholism can do.

Alzheimers is probably caused by a genetic reason and that gene MAY have been altered by any number of things or it could have been a non dominant recessive trait or a dominate trait. Much is being discovered about genetics by the minutes, even seconds, these days. Some think that the tendency toward alcoholism may be genetic. It GOT my attention.

Not every bad thing or unhealthy thing is caused by lack of a diet you believe in and not every disease can be avoided by keeping to the diet you believe in.

Relax and enjoy a few more things. We all don't have forever to live.

Ok...I posted to support someone who found it unpleasant to have folks giggling and laughing about having their mind altered by drinking. THAT SIMPLE.

Your thread was not about having a drink.....it was about the effect the drinking has on you.

You can try to make me and others feel bad, but the "killing the fun" was not about drinking in general, but about folks thinking it was cute to drink to alter their mood or whatever. Some do not find that funny.

Stop turning this thread into something about drinking or not drinking...the thread was about you being "enhanced" by drugs. THAT was what you started, not a referendum on drinking. I responded to your op....changing moods, etc using alcohol.

I am not against drinking. Not at all. Most people can do it without becoming addicted. It adds a bit of the zest of life for almost everyone. We don't need to be told what alcohol can do. We are all old enough to know. I don't drink anymore. I did for most of my life and found I was only getting worse at it, so I stopped. But I don't see any problem with others doing it.

That's a good observation. "Brain fog" sounds like it could be a blood sugar problem. Remember the U.S. president who used to pop jelly beans during cabinet meetings? I believe he needed the sugar to clear away the "brain fog". And after work, he was a social drinker. Again he was clearing away the brain fog, possibly by adjusting his blood sugar. In the end he developed Alzheimer's.

Actually, it's not surprising considering the population is around 100,000, mostly retired older folk. Lots more older people in AA than younger people. I doubt any (??) member of AA here in TV became alcoholics after moving to TV. Maybe some decided to quit after moving here.

As for drinking establishments, aren't they restaurants, except for the kiosks around the square? Probably a few "pubs" off campus that are just bars. I don't know.

What I very highly doubt is that the bars in TV actually caused anyone to move here.

The title of this thread is "Drinking and posting". It started off light, gay and witty.....people having fun repartee. Everyone is, of course, entitled to their opinion, and this is a public fotum, but why even bother with it, if it's offensive?

You are correct about the title of this thread, and a poster (not me) took personal offense at the light hearted attitude, NOT ABOUT DRINKING,but the mind altering affects it has.

I posted to support him, as he made a good point and that probably would have been the end of it, but as always with some, the ridicule and mockery took over. Words never said became the thread...that is offensive to me.

If this thread was titled "It's OK to Drink and Drive", then I'd be all over it. But it's about posting from home, an entirely different subject.

There are many residents of The Villages who take Prozac, Xanax, and other types of mind-altering drugs, specifically designed to improve mood and lift depression. Many people take some type of prescription pain meds that caution driving. We don't sit in judgment of them, nor should we. As long as people drink responsibly and don't cause harm to others, I think life is too short to be judgmental.

Not to sure who you are calling judgemental.....I respect the poster who had a problem with the frivolity on mind altering affects and said so..
