Wow! That is ridiculus. I'm sure some of the goodie two shoes will say "that's why there is a speed limit, obey the law and avoid the ticket" but seriously to drop the speed from 45 to 15 then back to 45 is a TRAP. Unless you know about it, no one is looking at speed signs constantly to make sure they're not going even 1 MPH over. No one!
This "goodie two shoes" drives between The Villages and Jacksonville at least 20 times per year. Don't know about RT 24 but I have never had a problem on US 301. I rarely see a police car and only on one occasion have I seen a car stopped by police. I also rarely see any one speeding. 45 MPH is a reasonable speed limit for those area.

I meant the 15MPH not 45. Agree 45 is reasonable but if you read the post it indicates going 45 in a 15. That is TRAP - nothing else.

Back in 1965 when I first moved to Jacksonville there was no I 75 and I 95 terminated in Jax. So, from Jax south on the east coast it was US 1 and the route to the Gulf coast was US 301. It was a gold mine in traffic fines for many small towns especially US 301. As the two interstate highways extended south the traffic started to dwindle. In order to keep the cash flowing some of these towns got creative. They took a lesson from some other small towns along the I 95 corridor and built real honest to goodness speed traps. Speed signs behind bushes, trucks parked in order to conceal stop signs, etc. US 301 was lucrative partly due to the traffic generated by the University of Florida along with those travelling mid state. As time went on the bad publicity and pressure from local merchants, signs became abundant and obvious.
Speed limits are now prominently posted along US 301. However, there is still zero tolerance. That is why I always add a caveat to my comments relative to the use of that route. (If that makes me a "goodie two shoes", so be it).
As I stated previously, I cannot comment on the existence of a speed trap on Rt 24 in Waldo. I have not driven that route in years. However, based the events described by the original poster, it sounds like one.

Default Some hospitality!

I appreciate this information and will avoid this route. Tricking people with speed traps to make them empty their wallets is wrong.

Now forgive me, I can't resist: It gives a whole to meaning to "highway robbery". Sorry.

I agree with pturner. Thanks for the info.
Hubby and I were travelling along 466 in front of the school last year and somehow did not notice the flashing lights to slow down (school dismisal). We slowed down as soon as we realized but we were stopped by the police nonetheless.
Got off with a warning (thank goodness). Will never make that mistake again.

Default Ocala National Forest at Midnight

Thanks to this website I have learned a couple of ways of getting to 95 north from TV (or going south from 95 to TV). One thing for sure.... I would not recommend the 95 south to rte 40 east through the Ocala National Forest at midnight unless you are looking for a divorce. Not only did I scare the ---- out of my wife but I had to pretend I wasn't scared too. Yipes PITCH DARK, nothing and more nothing for miles and miles and miles (does the movie "Deliverance" ring a bell). After multiple trips down and up 301 to rte 10 and a few north on 75 to Gainesville 24 back to 301 I think/thought this is/was the best route. Now with these BS speeding tickets I don't know.. a couple of times I tried on 301 and 24 to get right behind an 18 wheeler ( I mean right on his butt) and do what ever speed he is doing. I even tried to keep other cars from getting between us.. Another problem, for us, is we are always driving the first two hours early morning or the last six hours in the dark. Are these speed traps also in the middle of the day?? Thanks

As I have stated, I prefer 301/I 10. Second choice would be 42 east to Altoona then 19 north to right on CR 445A to right Rt 40 to left on Rt 11 to Bunnell then north on US 1 to I 95. Look out for deer and bear. I have family in St. Augustine Beach and we use that route a lot but make it a point to be home by dark.
BTW, I don't understand why anyone would be on Rt 24 in order to get to I 10. Do you go out to I 75 and then 24 through Gainesville?

Don't know about the Fl law but in Ohio the law reads the school zone limit is is 20 only when children are present. I got out of a ticket because I knew that school was out, my wife worked for the system, due to bad weather. The flashers were on about 2:30 and I went through at the speed limit of 35, was stopped and given a ticket. went to court and explained why I knew there were no children present and the case was dropped with the judge telling the officer he should have known better.

The sign says "When Flashing". I believe in some areas it says "In Session" or "When Children Present" or words to that effect.
The other day I was in the outside lane on 466 and the flashing light went "off" as I approached it. I, and others behind me, picked up speed passing those in the other two lanes. My passenger informed me we got a lot of dirty looks.

Default My preferred way to travel north from TV is...

Take 301 south to the Florida pike, take that all the way to the 535, take that to the Orlando airport, park the car, and get my butt in a plane back to Mass!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Thats right its an on/off ramp from 301 South to 24 West. Ramp speed is 25MPH. Then 45 MPH and WAP 15 with no sign and a shutdown school. The next sign we saw after going around it twice is 45MPH.

Has anyone used 9A around JAX going either way N or S rather than I-295 beltway. The road looks alot shorter around JAX but ya never know.

Thinking about using in the future

466E to
441N to
25N to
40E to
I-4E to
I-95N
