At the time Candlewood Inn Suites was our pet friendly hotel choice. As time went on they seemed to have a lot of long term residents and it got a bit trashy. We then chose Country Inn and Suites that was next door. We'll never travel i95 directly back to New England again. Between DC, Baltimore and i95 in Ct., it was white knuckle driving. The above route with 84, 81 etc is more relaxed driving.
It’s a challenge to find decent pet friendly hotels/motels. With our dog we prefer motels where you can back your vehicle up to the door. It sucks having to bring the dog through a lobby and up stairs and or an elevator. We have found Best Western and La Quinta to typically be good options, both Quality and Comfort Inns are usually not too bad either. Avoid Days Inns, Red Roof Inns, and Motel Six if at all possible, these are typically total dumps. Happy travels : )

Some of the best advice I ever followed was from you suggesting this route several years ago. We drop down into New Jersey from Route 81 but it is the most beautiful drive when you compare it to the beating you take on 95.

I tried twice to buy a Class C or a small Class A mainly for the trip to Jersy and another trip we take to N.C. but can't or should I say won't pay what they are asking for the rigs now. I have no interest in a used unit. I'm going to try the Airstream dealer in Tampa and see if that will work. That way we can mosey around instead of rushing. I want to be finished with the rat race. I don't know how many more years I can do the 500 to 600 miles a day safely.

Glad you made it safely. Welcome home.

A different approach would be to make trip part of enjoyment. Most of us are retired and really do not need to get there in exactly two days. We often incorporate a two-night visit in a place like Charleston. For the balance of the trip, we try to limit our travel such that we are able to be off the road NLT 5PM, and can then enjoy a nice dinner.

I do all I can to avoid the I-95 experience between Richmond and into Connecticut and since my destination is MA' the I-81/I-84 option works well for us.

Since you seem to be new....

1. There were no "reply" boxes because the thread was closed by the moderators. This typically happens when the replies have become too political. Closing the thread means the moderators do not want to see more discussion on the topic, it doesn't mean they want you to comment on the topic on another thread.

2. Fair and Balanced used to be the tag line for a particular news network. Viewers realized they were neither fair nor balanced. I believe that tag line is no longer used. That phrase was never used by, or promised by, ToTV.

3. It is fairly easy to start your own thread rather than polluting non-related threads.

If we drive down on a Friday, we typically leave DC around 1:00pm, just beating rush hour.I try to make it to Florence, and when we're about an hour out, I have my co-pilot google "pet friendly hotels in (insert town here)". Haven't had a problem finding a place yet!

Your attempt to skirt politics aside, which "viewers" realized that?

And you're incorrect. They still use that phrase...

If we don't have a dog, we stay in the Holiday Inn express in Petersburg.

If we do have a dog, we stay in the Quality Inn in Ashland.
Could u give me that address or phone number plz?

I usually use bringfido.com. Lots of reviews available and they usually tell you the pet fee so you're not surprised (really Marriott? $100+ pet fee?!)

Default South to North - Travel from TV

2022 0422 Friday @ 16:56
I am acknowledging those few who mentioned driving I-81 (north or south) which can be used to circumvent I-95. If this does not appeal to you as an alternative, read no further.

TV to Baltimore, MD - Two days, one night

Day 1 (I do not leave on a weekend.)
+ Top off the gas tank in TV
+ Florida 301 to I-10,
+ Jacksonville I-10 to Jacksonville's I-695 (beltway) to I-95 north
+ I-95 (gas along I-95 in Brunswick, GA)
+ I-95 Love's Seafood & Steaks, 6817 Chief of Love Road, Savannah, GA 31419)
+ I-95 to South Carolina's I-26 to South Carolina / North Carolina I-77
+ I-77 (gas at Kroger Gas Station [apparently no membership required] 1025 Roberts Branch Parkway, Blythewood, SC 29203)
+ I-77 to Hilton Garden Inn, 159 Gateway Boulevard, Mooresville, NC 28117 (704) 663-6468 (some pet friendly rooms according to their website)

Day 2
+ I-77 to Costco Gas, 392 Talbert Road, Mooresville, NC 28117 (one exit north of the Hilton Garden Inn)
+ I-77 to I-81 - First I-81 exit has a Love's Gas / Chester's Chicken / Subway, 145 Major Grahams Road, Max Meadows, VA 24360 (Eat in or take food to an I-81 rest stop)
+ I-81 to Winchester, VA Route 7 (east) - many rest stops along the way with rest rooms and picnic tables
+ (optional) Angelle's Diner, 2609 Lee Highway, Troutville, VA (540) 591-7208
+ Winchester, VA Route 7 to Route 340 (optional Costco Gas 251 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, VA 22602)
+ Route 340 to I-70 Frederick, MD
+ I-70 to 10 Monocacy Boulevard, Frederick, MD 21704 Costco Gas
+ I-70 to I-695 Baltimore Beltway

All of the gas stations mentioned are near to the interstates. The Mooresville, NC Costco is visible from the I-77. Winchester, VA's Costco would be visible if the Cracker Barrel weren't hiding it. Frederick, MD's Costco is visible from I-70.

I have said nothing about the beauty of I-77 past Statesville, NC, crossing the mountain pass (the vistas) heading toward the (Fancy Gap) Blue Ridge Parkway and continuing on to I-81 through the New River Valley. I haven't said anything about the beauty of the seemingly endless mountains that "accompany you" north (on the east).

I apologize for any mistakes that I may have made.

We came back from FL on 4/7. We stayed at a Hampton Inn in Fredericksburg. Clean, not far from 95, not too expensive. Good overnight spot.

We like to get the discount hotel book for the state we have decided we will be stopping in.

Tells us amenities and directions and price so we can call to arrange the room for the night.

Stu from NYC - here are the links to the websites you pick-up at those State rest areas! But they are usually walk-up rates, not ressie rates; and charge extra for Fri/Sat nites.
