Just don’t comment on the state of the trees or any electric power trucks you see on the way.
I-75 doesn’t go to Nashville. It goes through Knoxville.

Default There is a better way

We also do that trip from Indy. The problem with Alabama is that it adds so much time to your trip.

The last two years Google Maps started having us avoid Nashville and route 24 to Chattanooga. It has us get off around the Mammoth Cave area and cut across the countryside to Chattanooga.

It should do that automatically but refresh Maps a bit before Mammoth Cave and it should adjust the route to avoid the pain of driving through Nashville.

We then spend the night on 75 near Chattanooga and leave the hotel around 8 am. You hit Atlanta after the morning rush the way.

But use Google Maps for all it's worth. Nashville and 24 are horrible.

Is that still a good route or should I be looking at going through Birmingham to get to 10 and catch 75 to TV? Understanding we may be getting another dose.

The Atlanta route is easier and faster if you canuse the HOV lanes and use your Sunpass or Peach Pass to utilize the Express Lanes.

We drove that route earlier this week from TV up through Atlanta on 75 to Nashville. Roads are open, gas plentiful. Prices were running $2.83 to $3.09/gal.
The only hurricane damage we ran into was at Valdosta, GA, with trees down, road signs/billboards mangled and shredded. Half the city without power, traffic lights nonfunctional, but roads were open. You shouldn't have any trouble getting through. I just wouldn't stop in Valdosta. Expect VERY heavy traffic in both directions, but especially southbound from Nashville though Atlanta. No explanation for it. Almost more semis than cars!! Safe travels!!

Use WAZE, Google Maps, or Maps (Apple) on your smart-phone. How long does it say the trip is? Is that normal? Is the route given the one that you plan?

It would also be good to check GasBuddy. Look at the price of gas and click on a station to see the update time. If the price is reasonable and the update was recent that should be a good sign
.
Nope, nothing new to learn.

Either way should be OK. Fill up in Nashville, and again in north Georgia.

We traveled that route last Saturday 9-29, no problems, did not see any damage until about 20 miles from Fl state line and all loose damage was already cleaned up.

Yep, you’re right. Caught I-24 to Nashville.

This route is a few more miles and may take an extra hour, but if care about your sanity, it's a much easier drive than trying to deal with Chattanooga and especially Atlanta.

When you hit Montgomery, you take US 231 through Dothan and pick up I-10 directly south of there.

Probably as old as you Dad. Love the Nav, but, still keep track of favorite gas / hotels/ rest areas [ don't speed past those !].

The usual way when taking I-65 is exiting at Montgomery and heading towards Dothan and I-10
Takes about an hour and change longer than Atlanta and I-75. If you want to stop on the way, the Hampton Inn off I-65 in Athens, AL has a snowbird rate available by calling. There is also a Buc Ees there.

I drove from Southern Indiana last Saturday- best trip down ever! Only issue I had was right over the bridge into a louisville, a truck was over the guard rail- got through right as ambulance arrived. No other traffic jams longer than 5 minutes- even into and south of Atlanta which is usually a nightmare. Heading north again tomorrow- hoping for the same.

Found many low prices which were entered by station owner, but when I arrived, 20-30cents higher.

Found Shell app pricing accurate versus GasBuddy at Shell stations.

YMMV
