Default Dumb Golf Question

After owning in TV for over 4 years, I finally played golf. Hooray!!!

I went to Turtle Mound with my cart (and my son). The starter asked if we were walking or riding. We answered riding. He charged us $3.50 each for a trail fee. We were both in 1 cart.

So here's my question (which didn't dawn on me for quite some time), shouldn't the trail fee cover the cart rather than the driver & passenger? If we both had carts, we'd still have paid $3.50 each. If I was alone, I'd have paid $3.50. Was it just a mistake on the part of the stater assuming we had 2 carts?
It was so nice to even just pay $3.50 each, it never dawned on my I was paying double what I maybe should have paid until the next day.

Hi Steve,

The starter was right. Assuming you haven't paid your yearly green fee of about $140 for executive courses then you will be charged $3.50 each time you play. Assuming your son is not a villager then he will have to pay $3.50 each time he plays with you.

Actually, my son is a villager. He lives in the house, I visit it (at least for another 8 weeks until I retire). He landed a job in the area and has been living there for about a year now.
So the trail fee is per person rather than per cart?

Yes, Steve, the trail fee when doing pay-as-you-go on the execs is per person not per cart.

If you end up golfing more, the annual trail fee is a much better deal. For $140/year, it will apply to all residents of the household, which would include your son (assuming he has a resident ID card).

on a side note.... I golfed with some folks the other day who have lived in The Villages since the early 90s. They were recalling when the trail fees were first instituted....there were protests, blocked streets, etc. This was before the days of email and the internet and web forums. These days we grumble about paying $8/month for the tee time system but then do it anyway.

Default trail fee

That's right, each person pays. I even had to pay a $3.50 spectator fee for my wife who was not golfing. I will definitely pay the annual fee when we are down full time. I believe it is good for up to four residents of your home. (Was the gator still in the pond atTurtle Mound by number 4?)

Yes the gator was there. To the right of the tee box near the shore, eyes and snout out for a look around.
