Comcast has just notified its customers that the first test of the national early warning alert system will be held on November 9th at 2:00 EST across all radio and t.v. in the United States.

The EAS would allow the President or his or her designee to speak to the nation in the event of a national emergency. The test will last 3 minutes
we are told, and a scrolling message will appear or be heard that "this is
a test".

Probably good to notify your friends and family so we don't have another
"War of the Worlds", Orson Welles, phenomenon.

This is the first test and it sounds as tho all, all stations and channels are participating. Not sure how it will work with computers, but I would imagine something would scroll, we'll see as the test info becomes more well known and informative. Comcast does not expect issues, although they have said
its customers may have, may have, to use the program guide to get back to regular programming. I'm sure as the first test of its kind in this Country, there will be things that go awry. However, I am pleased this type of alert
has finally met technology. Calendarize and let your family and friends know.

These EAS tests have been going on for a while. They are obnoxious and interrupt our regular programming. If you are watching something you recorded, they interrupt it and you have to figure out a way to get back to the recording. Hit me three times this afternoon in one hour.

Apparently all of these are leading to the national coordination date for the
alert. Checked with Comcast and that's what they told me.
