any suggestions for someone to clean out the Lani drains

I have no idea what type of lanai drains you have, but I have found that in many installations the bottom lanai aluminum member is sealed to the floor. Many others have suggested breaking this seal and allowing the water to drain out. I have done this with 1/16 inch by 1 inch aluminum strips cut 2.25 inches long. I loosened the screws into the concrete, pried up the aluminum strip, inserted the new pieces, and retightened the screws. Over the last several months this has worked great. The gap is small enough to keep out most of the animals and the water drains out nicely. Also this cleans very easily when i power wash the lanai.

I don’t have any drains in my lanai. But I need drains at the base of my lanai screens. What trade does this type of work, screen installers, handyman, …

When I see water accumulate, I use my blower to blow the water to the outside. I would rather not continue doing that, time to get a real fix.

I had this problem and easily solved the problem by enlarging the grooves under the poured concrete slabs that went under the exterior knee wall.

Then I got smart and enclosed the Lanai and have an extra 400 sq ft of controlled living space which is now our most used room in the house. No pollen, no water. Only complaint is why I was so stupid to think a lanai would offer any value. Spring, too much pollen, summer too hot, fall ok sometimes, winter too iffy.

You can buy drains that get cut into the base rail on your lanai.

These were invented and patented by a Villager who lived in La Reynalda off of Chula Vista in the Spanish Springs area. I believe he has passed but his children are running the business.

I installed 4 of them for someone last week. I think they will also install them, but I don't have any idea what they charge. Each drain costs $37.50 after tax.

It's easy enough to make a path for water to get under or through the screen sill. But, if your terrain around the enclosure isn't sloped and drained properly, you'll still collect water because it has no place to go.

I have this problem. I built a small french drain to allow water to pass to the yard drain. It worked briefly, but it is easily overwhelmed when any real rain falls. So, the next step is to install a drain and pipe and connect to the yard drain. I contacted a landscaper or two for quotes, which came back in the $5k range. Ouch!

I believe I have seen porous drain pipe, this usually is used to allow water to escape, but you MIGHT be able to use it in reverse. I would check with ACE hardware to see what that might have. Since you have a French already, you might be able to dig up your stone, install the porous pipe and get enough flow to limit your problem. Then rout this to a suitable drainage area in your yard.

Thank you for the quick reply. I was hoping someone had experience with a company that installed a device or made the necessary modifications on a regular basis.

I wish I had caught this problem sooner. The house is three years old so warranty is not a help. I’m a part timer here in TV, and I really don’t spend time in the lanai. The first couple times I saw water on this side of the screen I assumed we had a strong wind blowing rain in this direction. When I started to see it more often, I knew there was a design problem.
