Actually, I am more than offended, I am deeply concerned for our children and grandchildren. We boomers came in with a bang to a country full promise and blessedly full of pride in having defeated a fascist, a monster. And now, here we are. Will the boomers go out with a whimper as Democracy fails, under attack by its own?

The man in question in the paper is certainly over the top. But I cannot help but picture the woman, at the pool, with her crude saying on her shirt, sending her signal to others like her. (* Of course, no one deserves to be stalked. And sure — she can wear whatever she wants to wear to try to get the attention she so desperately must need. This situation is an ugly mess, all around.)

But about those women with their slogans — those women are everywhere. Sometimes they show up in social situations, having been invited by a friend of a friend. I know of one who recently “invaded” a lunch — having been invited by someone to a large group of women, most of whom she had never met.

This brassy creature plopped her purse on the table (ladies do not do that) and then started braying and honking on and on about her hatred for those who do not think like she does. Finally, a woman next to her quietly told her, “We do not act like that.” The brassy, crass, loud woman had assumed. . .

There is a thread running here where the hatred of Baldwin is so intense that the death of an innocent woman seems to be forgotten by those who look like they are reveling in so much joy at Baldwin’s mess that they can forget the death — in what shows between the lines as a, “Hey, whatever it takes to ruin one of ‘em,” attitude.

I have never before had to worry about our country. I am a believer in common sense and decency and thinking things through and responsibility and finding solutions — and plain old good manners. (Remember those?) We are not seeing much of any of those things anymore. Adults are behaving in ways — doing things that I would think they tried to teach their children not to do — or be.

Like Pogo said, “We have met the enemy and he is us.”

PS: MDLNB, because I am a nice lady with a bad habit of writing off the top of my head, hitting submit, and then going back and editing within usually not more than a few minutes — I think I need to cut you a little slack. When I did my edit, I realized that I needed to clarify that the woman in this mess did not deserve to be stalked and could wear whatever she wanted to get the attention she needed. But you grabbed my quote before my edit.

So many bazillion times, I wrote words like ‘clarify’ and ‘transition needed’ on essays that you would think I would edit before posting. I usually catch myself immediately, but you were too fast for me.

Please look again at what I said after I clarified. The man in question needs to stop, of course. My little tirade, my opinion was on “in your face” types in general. I can avoid drama and chaos types in my own social life. But, as a country, if all the hate around us does not end or, at least, subside, I think we are doomed.

I still think you took an unfair hit on my words. Not a surprise really, but I still hope you will take another look at my self-quote above. And I acknowledge my first draft needed clarification that you did not get to see. You were quick on the draw. And I sure do need to edit before posting.

Kind of interesting that you defend the guy that is disparaging a president/former president in large letters throughout the villages and then blame a woman that is wearing an anti-president themed T shirt to the pool for her being harassed. kind of like blaming a woman that is wearing a short skirt for her rape.

I don't know the woman involved, but I wouldn't want my wife or daughter to be treated like that. Guess not all of us agree on certain specifics.

MDLNB, you read fast. I just attached a PS to my post #86 where I cut you some slack for your assumption because my wording was already up and not edited yet when you went for your weaponized response.

You are stretching my intent to fit your agenda.

I know that being moderate makes me in the minority in what TOTV has become. . .But whatever I think along those lines — I know that guy needs to stop. He is an embarrassment and hurts his cause tremendously. Ugly mess. He has to stop. Angry and spring-loaded, just waiting for someone like me who dares to speak up about the poison consuming our country. Hateful words everywhere, in the air, on the air, on clothes, and bumper stickers, and flags — the national obsession with Us v. Them. It is highly profitable to use the people as pawns.

We’re being had. And it has been so easy. I think it might be based in neuroscience because it is a tapping into the brain, tapping over and over, to heighten fear, paranoia, insecurity, and the potential for pure blind hatred.

I have listened to people I know talk about the personality changes in a friend or relative who cannot stop drinking the poison. In fact, they seek it daily from their screens of choice.

MDLNB. I doubt that you will go back and read what I wrote to you for clarification. I hope you will. There was more than one subject in my post. You missed stuff.

But I recognize that I am probably making your day by giving you a target, even though you have to take my words out of context and refuse to see my actual points. The big picture of hatred — all around us — is destroying our country.

I stopped by TOTV today looking for a little distraction and damn! I got caught in the usual mire and muck.
