Default Elections 2024

Make sure to register to vote if you are just moving to The Villages.

Commissioners could be deciding important voting and issues concerning you. Some include short term rental restrictions and rules, taxes, funding for pet projects on golf cart only lanes, traffic flow and new construction, expansion of The Villages, fire and police services as well as funding improvements for flood prone areas.

Will be a very interesting election. Based on story in yesterdays Sun, do believe the developer will pick his own candidates and finance their campaigns to the hilt!

The Developer can choose their candidates, but there are so many more people that don’t want what they want. Obviously the Developer will be against short term rental controls and commercial developments in which they don’t have their hands in the royalty jar. Hopefully we get commissioners who what most of the general populace wants or needs.

It isn't clear that is the case. The 2020 BoCC elections went one way, the 2022 not so much and the Fire District was close to a draw. Some focus too much on the developer and not enough on the real issues. They wind up cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Ideally, that won't happen again.
Realistically, .....

Money speaks almost all the time. The developers candidates will have lots of money to spend with very well paid people guiding their candidacy. Will be very interesting.

Yes — when I moved to Florida last December, in less than one hour at the county building on Powell Road I:
* Registered to Vote
* Obtained my Florida Driver’s License
* Registered my car and obtained Florida plates
* Applied for homestead

Was quick and easy, and no appointment needed

What I don't like is when you register to vote all your personal information becomes public knowledge. Why?

We vote in privacy but your voter information is available for all the public to see.

I don't think it's anyone's business what my name, address, phone number and political affiliation is.

I believe this keeps some folks from registering and voting especially in today's violate and targeting society.

I believe that has always been the case, at least for me, going back to when I registered to vote at age 18 back in California. I guess people knowing my party affiliation never bothered me, and did not feel invasive. But then, back in the day, I was always listed in the phone book with my name, address and phone number, as were most people I knew.

Most of our lives are now an open book to be read by anyone who wants to.

Just a guess but it probably has to do with fair and open elections. If that information was not public then the elections office would be accused of fudging numbers or adding or deleting names. Having it open means you and I can look to see if our information is correct and anyone can look to see if the overall numbers appear to be correct.

We did elect people who would go against the developer and would do what the general populace wants and needs. One wound up in jail, for a crime that doesn't usually get a jail sentence. Not sure you will find many people who want to run against the developers hand picked candidates.

At this stage of our lives hard to find people who would take a chance going against the developer

For those who are already in The Villages (& already registered to vote) and want a mail in ballot for the next general election, you must make your request for a mail in ballot AGAIN. The law changed in FL and requests for mail-in ballots are only good for two years. Go to the website for your county and make your request again.

Default Vote in just ONE location, too!

Once registered here in FL, please do NOT send an email ballot back to your former location.
