I am closing on my Lily end of November 2012, I did not tile my entire house, deciding to finish tiling after close. I do want all hard surface throughout the house. Since it is a new build I am trying to decide should I finish the tile I have with the build in my the rest of the house because now the tile is still available? If I wait it may not be available and could be discontinued, so I am thinking I should do it very soon after closing. Also thinking of doing engineer wood floors in living/dining area and then continue into master bedroom and doing the tiling in the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms. The flooring I am looking at for the wood floors is a plank, hand scrapped. I have 2 small dogs, that are groomed with nails clipped, and I would put a large area rug down in the rooms, or should I just tile the entire house and keep it all the same? Would like to know what others are doing or have done and experience with both typed of flooring. I am have Nickel tile and Robertos flooring quoting the job.

We have about 2200 sq ft of Anderson Hickory Flintlock Handscraped Flooring in our house in Seattle, darker color. We have had up to three dogs, two now. The floor is incredible for having dogs, it shows no scratches and if you do scratch you just get some stain and put it over the scratch and it covers it. We did not put this floor in our Villages home, though I almost did, and will probably regret not using it, but I fell in love with a different wood at the last minute. We put in a Brazilian wood floor in all rooms but the laundry/bathrooms and kitchen where we kept tile. I think the dogs will scratch this floor, I am hoping not...but the handscraped is amazing.

We took carpeting out of our living and dining room right after we closed and put in the engineered hand scraped wood floor. Love it. Three of us here and after 2 1/2 years still looks great and so easy to take care of. I am thinking about doing master bedroom next with the wood.

I am currently building a Lantana and have chosen tile for the entry/bath/kitchen, but hardwood in the living aeas. I was in a number of homes with all tile and the wood had a warmer feel to me. Also, I did not like the echo I was hearing in some (not all) of the tiled homes. However, area rugs could help with that. I have wood floors now, have 2 dogs, almost no scratches. I have their nails ground, which keeps them a bit smoother! Good luck with your decision!

How do the dogs like the floors? Seems they would slide and not be able to grip if they had the "zoomies".

It's all about the rugs!! I will have a 6X9 area rug and another 8X5 in my new home. They zip around just fine as long as they have traction to stop them! And yes, my Jack Russell definitely gets the "Zoomies"! When she starts, my ShihTzu follows suit! I am carpeting the bedrooms though. I like to step out on something a bit plush!

...we sit and play alot on the floor and am not sure that area rugs would give enough cushion for that. Any thoughts about this?
