Saw a guy in front of me exit the Miona Rec Center parking lot right on to the roundabout and north on Buena Vista going at the usual Yamaha max. gas speed of 24 mph and no license plate. Noticed a few cars having to go around him at about 4pm today. Guess safety on the way home wasn't a concern.

We went to Brownwood yesterday for the craft fair. On the way back to our car I was crossing the street with my cane and about 1/2 way across a couple in their golf cart cut right in front of me. I said "Don't let me stop you!" he said "OK".

I wouldn’t have used the Entitled headline. It’s usually a confused, or crap I just pulled out on the street. How many times have you seen a cart go thru the gate, and then they realize they weren’t paying attention, missing the cart path.

Then again not long ago a lady in her late 80s was driving down BV, in a cart. I slowed my car to let her know I would follow her to the next exit, to get her safety off the road.

When she was safe, she informed me she needed to get to the doctor and since she usually drove her car, this was the only way she knew to get there. Didn’t know how to navigate the cart path to office.

Not entitled, determined, and confused, but determined to get to where she was going, and the only way she knew.

I also wonder if it was someone who just didn’t know. Especially if you are down for a week or a month, it takes time to figure the carts paths out.

Good point. A lot of what we see as "entitled" driving can probably just be chalked up to the confusion one suffers with advancing age.

Nevertheless, whatever the cause, the problem still remains. As the Villages continues to grow the traffic congestion will only increase, and with it the chances for serious injury or death especially for those who operate golf carts or bicycles not just on MMPs physically separated from the roadways but on the roadways themselves. An 800 - lb. golf cart or a bicycle offers little protection when the other vehicle involved in an accident weighs 3,000 pounds or more.

Seems like the drivers of the 3000 pound vehicles have to exercise a bit more care and be aware of those confused drivers of the 800 pound golf cart.

Pity the driver of the confused golf cart who encounters the entitled driver of the 3000 pound vehicle!

I agree. Unfortunately though a lot of those people herding those 3,000 lb. vehicles down the road are Villagers who may be just as confused behind the steering wheel of their car as they are when in a golf cart.

I think, without being here for any significant length of time beyond six years ago, that the original system worked well enough in times past. but with increasing congestion, considering the population, comes significantly increased risk of injury or death, and unfortunately the powers-that-be show little inclination to minimize that risk.

It seems to me that a majority of those driving 3000 pound vehicles are quite confused about speed limits.

The majority??? I don't understand all of this accusing Villagers of speeding. I drive around the speed limit and never more than five miles over on occasion and I have very few people pass me.

Certainly, there are some but it seems to me that the vast, vast majority of Villagers drive pretty close to the speed limit.

We had a street legal golf cart about 13 years ago in TV. Just drove it maybe a half dozen times on the streets of TV and said sayonara when the first years insurance expired. Which (BTW) is as expensive as car insurance. Dangerous is inadequate to describe merging a LSV that can legally travel 25 mph with 3,000 - 4,000 pound vehicles traveling 40 mph (legally 35 or 30) depending on the street. Most golf carts traveling the streets/roads of TV got there by accident and are attempting to exit as soon as possible. Kudos to those that help them.

Reading about all the crazy driving here in both golf carts and cars, I always wondered about the written driving license test
in their handbooks and material.

Most never mention of other vehicles on the road, such as golf carts and motorcycles to be aware of.

All the test I seen where all about other cars and trucks on whose got the right of way etc., nothing about the said vehicles.

Would you like to ride with me one day. I set cruise on the speed limit and 99% of the vehicles pass me, with 98% of those being villagers. Now granted they only pass on the straight portions of the road because at the round abouts they have no clue what to do or how it works.
