In addition, if the person behind you, does hold their card up, and you didn't happen to notice them do that, and the gate is open legitimately for THEM - then YOU are holding them up, because you've chosen to play traffic cop. The only time I've ever tried to prevent someone from coming through is if the gate is already closed, and they ask me to swipe them in. |

Lots of people seem to believe:
--- Gates lower crime because thieves think they are being watched. --- Gates take pictures of cars and the people in them. --- Gates help carts cross. --- Many want them removed, many do not. Here is a compromise ... Make entry gates work the same as exit gates. Pull up close and they open. That would: --- Save a lot of money. --- Still give the false sense of security. --- Still allow pictures to be taken. --- Help carts cross. --- Eliminate the entire gate card cloning issue. --- Make the entry process so much easier and safer. HOW can WE get the people who WORK FOR US make this happen? |

They've just spent a whole lot of money installing new servers and software for the card readers. They may not be very receptive of a proposal to throw it all away.

Hundreds of Villagers have purchased cloned mirror chips and use them every day. Yet, the District Government issues a statement about a new gate control system, but totally ignores what effect the new system will have on the cloned chips. No wonder people are confused and have questions. I have a cloned mirror chip, but before I installed it, I called the district administration office, and they told me that the cloned chips were okay to use if they were made from my valid access card.

Based on the communication for the upgrades, I'm not so sure sure the decision makers understood well how the system or the upgrades work. Best chance might be to start with the new areas. Do the above and replace the card access with licence plate readers for added security. |

Gates are there for the safe passage of golf carts crossing the road. Without them, carts would be run into on a daily basis , especially from outsiders who don't know that this is a golf cart community, and are not aware of them crossing.

When gate arms are broken off, or removed for maintenance, or removed for bad weather... the above theory fails. Daily crashes do not happen. Traffic manages to flow just fine, and actually flows faster.

After a day or so, traffic flows faster as drivers ignore the stop signs. The risk to golf carts increases. I have no study for this, just my personal experience. When the gates are down for any extended period of time the feeling of playing "frogger" increases. Gaps in traffic decrease as drivers fail to stop and near misses increase as the actions of individual drivers become less predictable. I would be the first to argue that the absence of crashes is evidence of a tractable problem. However, through experience I recognize that as both the duration of the absence of gates and the expectation of the absence of gates grow, the problem steadily becomes worse. Taking the gates down for repair or bad weather reveals issues that could lead to serious problems if they remain down.

When arms are broken, or removed, they place a STOP sign near where the gate was.... so traffic does not flow any faster .

I viewed several cart owners zooming thru the left visitors gate zoom thru without stopping or slowing down. Yes, that driver is rude, and a potential future accident driver. I like the gates. They do slow people down where necessary.

One would think that a gate area where the arm is unexpectedly missing, that crashes would happen at a huge rate. Golf carts would be expecting the car to stop, and cart would dart out into the traffic lane directly in front of the vehicles. I recall plenty of publicity about carts crashing all over the place EXCEPT at any crossing with a missing gate arm. We hear about every cart crash, but that number pales in comparison to how many cars crash. There's nothing sensational about a car crash, so those do not get the hype in the news media. Yet the doom and gloom posts continue, even though crashes are just not happening. |
