You should find a retirement community with transportation. The Villages is not a good option for you.

OP, perhaps you might consider getting a driver's license.....it's really not that difficult, heck, people that have absolutely no idea what they're doing, drive around all the time in TV

It’s not happening yet, but there will be a sort of self-driving taxi service. Maybe later this decade. TV would be perfect for it. It would be like Uber, but no driver.

Before you say you would never trust a self-driving car, have you seen how bad some TV drivers are. The ones who turn left from the right lane or right from the left lane scare me to death. I see it almost every time I drive now. A self-driving car would know better than to do something so foolish.

There are a lot of car services to and from the airport. If you google Car Services you may find someone who does local runs in addition to long hauls. If this place is your choice to live, you can make it happen, but it would be best to find a local driver who is helpful and looking for something to do of this nature.

And therein lies the problem of why we have a number of crashes in this community. If not with car against car, car against golf cart, it's with car against pole, tree, gates, etc.

Find another retirement community with these services, TV is not right for a person without transportation.

I have recently heard advertisements on WVLG radio for a female that does transportation like you are requesting. I am sorry that I cannot remember the name of the service, but if you listen to WVLG I am sure that you will hear the advertisement eventually, or you could email WVLG directly, if you have that capability.

Apart from that, however, I would maybe ask you to consider looking a little deeper into using Uber or Lyft. I believe that it is WELL worth the time/effort/money to setup a phone for even this use on its own. Perhaps having someone knowledgeable help you set this up on a phone would serve you well for years to come. It is, in my humble opinion, FAR better than a taxi service, as you can actually WATCH the car come to your house, you know how long it will take, you can see the cost before requesting the car, there is no physical money exchanged, and it is usually a lot cheaper. With a cellphone even dedicated to that sole purpose, your rides would always be as close as your pocket.

Default public transportation

This raises an interesting question. Why doesn't the Villages have public transportation (e.g. bus) perhaps provided by Sumter and other counties. It sure seems like we are paying enough tax to have that type of service!

I thought the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill was supposed to provide money for projects like public transportation. Public transit would also help prevent climate change. Is The Villages trying to get their fair share?

A golf cart is definitely an option I am considering. It is easier for me to handle alone than a car for short distances. Thanks.

I'm pretty independent, healthy, very active, and have traveled extensively. I just do not drive or plan to drive a car for various reasons. Transportation should not be a barrier to anyone, regardless of if you have a need or where you live. I have also had bad experiences with Uber but it may just be where I currently live. I will look more into Uber/Lyft for the area (hopefully a safer option now), and looking into a golf cart for short distances as well. I'll keep Dave and Grace's number handy. I appreciate everyone's responses.

Maybe the supposed need doesn’t justify the ongoing expenditure.

Probably to fix the old not create new.
