If I'm interred, I can't use them.

It sounds good, but, according to Investopedia:

"GBP is the abbreviation for the British pound sterling, the official currency of the United Kingdom"

So if you want to eat sleep and travel, have your charge cards ready and I recommend you use a card that doesn't charge exchange fees.

You are right. Many shops and businesses in UK will not handle cash.
Even my UK bank is cash free, unless from a cash machine!
Funny,as before Covid nobody would accept a CC for less than £5 transaction as it wasn't economical.
Now they will take it for pennies.
Funny old world!

Some cities and states have passed laws that require businesses to accept cash. And, there seems to be a trend to increase the number those laws. Florida tried to pass a law, but it didn't pass. So far, the only business that I know of in The Villages that won't accept cash is Darlins Sweet Shoppe in the Sawgrass Market.

You can get Euros thru one of the Nationwide banks (eg Chase). You need to have an account at the bank I presume. You have to pay and order them. Takes about 3 days, they call you when the have it.

I just bought about $5k in Euros. Ordered at Chase bank and had it within 24hrs. Also, you can order big bills, small bills or combo. The exchange is good right now, or a few days ago. 1 Euro = $1.07 USD. Of course the rate changes daily or maybe hourly, but it’s favorable to the USD right now. Have fun.
