I've seen light colored cars that had a completely black front from the plastered love bugs. They're a bear to clean off. Washing them off with Coke Classic seems to help.

Thanks Tal, finally a picture so I can see what they're like. Ewwwww. Do houses have to be pressure washed or is it just cars that get the mess? How long is Love Bug season?

At least Love Bugs don't bite. Don't get me started on Canadian black flies!

Thanks Tal. I just saw one or two and said "what's the big deal". The ones I can't stand are the Palmetto Bugs, I think. :dontknow: Those huge things. But when I saw the picture of that car, that really creeped me out. Mostly on highways? Or do they get that bad right here in TV? ???

Keep your eyes open on I75 during the season and you'll see cars that passed thru swarms of the critters and they're plastered so thick on the front of the cars, it changes the color to black. Unbelievably gross!

They do not seem to create that much of a mess on the houses. They do make a mess on the driveway and others places on the concrete when they die because there are often so many of them to clean up.

Not sure that 35 mph is fast enough to get many love bugs splattered all over your car or truck but 50 mph and over seems to do it.

they also say not to wear white clothing because they are attracted to light colors. Also put a dryer sheet in your pocket to keep them away, or is that for musqutios? Anyway try it. The year before was a mild season for them. Last year was a moderate, so guess what season we will probably get this year. Yuckkkkkkk

You won't have any problem riding with top down in the evening and the weather is perfect for it! I drove with the top down in September and it was tolerable. I'm one of those who always has a window open anyway, even with the air going (well, I was one pre-rising gas prices), so the top off and lovebugs wasn't that much of an issue -- they'd splat the windshield but I didn't hit any swarms (stayed off the interstates) and that would make a huge difference. They were a problem when I stopped the car and got out. Then it was yucky but it would have been yucky with or without the top on.

I have seen these are cars around Palm Harbor, Florida especially during the love bug seasons. Have not noticed them all that much here in TV.
