Default Fantastic Sourdough Bread from a home-based kitchen

My daughter, in Maryland, told me I should be eating sourdough bread as the fermentation process converts "things" to be better for your body. While she's trying to convince me, she did a quick AI query and came up with "The Golden Loaf Home Bakery" (can easily find it on Facebook).

I purchased twice in the last three weeks and the bread is absolutely fantastic! Organic flour, water, sourdough starter and sea salt - that's it!

The packaging helps keep the bread fresh (leave on your counter) or freeze individually wrapped slices.

If you like sourdough bread, it's a WINNER!

I may try it. I have not had any really good sourdough bread since dining in San Francisco.

Default Addict

Thanks for the tip.
I freely admit that I am addicted to sourdough bread, have been for decades. Especially the San Francisco strain. Came here from the western states where SF style was available in many stores.
I have been getting my fix of SF style by driving to the Whole Foods store in Gainesville. An hour drive from my house, but addicts will do anything.
I visited her website, but I am unclear on how purchasing works or where to go to pick it up. I sent an email to the address on her facebook page. maybe She'll give me some feedback.

Same. I see that we can request to purchase a loaf and from 11-2 but don't know where. Excited to try it per the great reference here.

I love great sourdough bread, but it’s essentially white bread. Health benefits? Probably highly overrated. Eat it for the taste.

“Although the yeast and lactic acid bacteria die, they leave behind beneficial compounds from the fermentation process.
No Probiotics: Because the heat kills the bacteria, baked sourdough bread does not contain live probiotics.
Prebiotic Benefits: The breakdown of gluten and phytic acid during fermentation makes the bread easier to digest and serves as a prebiotic, nourishing healthy bacteria already present in your gut.”

I love the taste as well and agree its health benefits are over rated. Last I checked it’s a higher calorie bread and is lower in fiber. I think of it as more of a dessert bread. My go to is the true whole wheat (not enriched) bread.

Up North we occasionally get freshly baked sour dough bread made with non enriched whole wheat flour. It’s delicious but harder to get because it’s made by a local company and is in high demand.

I will age myself here: I can remember buying from a street vendor on Fisherman's Wharf in SF "back in the day." You could get a large chunk of sourdough bread, and a cup of shrimp for $1.00. Even back then, it was a tasty bargain.

Provide your email address on the site. Roughly once a week, you'll receive an email "drop" with an ordering link. The link contains the products and the shopping cart. The order confirmations will contain the pick-up address (Fairway neighborhood off Co Rd 121, about a mile north of CR462).

I ordered the SF sourdough culture and in about a week you have enough for your first loaf. Then just keep the culture active and you can bake 1-2 loafs a week. I use a bread machine to make the dough then take it out and let it rise in a round bowl for 30 minutes and bake it. Nothing better than making SF yourself.

Interested in baking sourdough at home here. Is it very difficult? Sourdough bread in market is quite expensive. I assume the ingredients in homemade are much cheaper. And better.

Worked at Boudin many moons ago, got to have an audience with the mother dough. She looked amazing for having been born in 1849.
