Default Is this a fence?

Wasn't there on Wednesday, but it's there on the 9th hole of Tierra del sol, today.

Some folks simply shouldn't buy a home on a golf course. What were they thinking? This home is like 10-15 steps from the fairway. Did they think balls wouldn't fly into their yard and golfers wouldn't try to retrieve them?

I do not live on a golf course but if I did I would not want people in my yard either. If you hit into their yard just call it a lost ball.

Whatever……

From Golfing in the Villages site.

Please NEVER play or retrieve a ball from the
yard of a resident. Report any damage of
private property to the homeowner.

Please review the bold yellow box in the middle of this common course etiquette guide published by GolfTheVillages dot com. Take special note of the last sentence in the aforementioned highlight box.

Sorry, a direct link is not working to the page. You can see it yourself by:

Go to GolfTheVillages .com
Next to the text Home just below the splash image, click on Golfing In The Villages
On the right hand side under "Golf In The Villages (two-tone green menu), click on Course Etiquette.
Scroll down to middle of page, the yellow text highlight box.
Take note of last sentence.

The law says you can't have a golf cart that travels in excess of 20 MPH and we all know how that rule works out.

The question was, "is this a fence"?

I thought fences were prohibited in The Villages.

I suspect if someone strung a chain around their home, it would determined it violated the covenants, but I don't know ... so I'm asking.

IMO, doesn’t look like a fence to me.
Plus it sure doesn’t look like it’s strung around the home!

Effectively a fence. I think a bigger issue is that the homeowner is screwing hooks into trees that are not his/hers. At least that’s how it looks from here.

No, I believed the trees were on their property. Probably not just coincidence, that they were right on the property line.

As far as I'm concerned, they very well could have put up a sign that says ... "I'm a crotchety PIA, who was too stupid to realize what was going to happen, when I bought a home on a golf course".

They probably asked their Agent about it & the agent said, "don't worry, it's against the law and TV regulations to go onto someone else's property" ... & they believed it.

Must have been written by a non-golfer.

No mention of ball marks.

No mention of filling divots.

No mention of using a club to pull a ball out of a hole.

Online Sunshine

Probably not legally. It is more complicated than the above statute but it is a good start.

Hopefully it’s not secured too well or he may go running after a violator in the dark and forget about his fence and well………

Perhaps the owners have small grandchildren visiting. The kids want to play outside. The "fence" does not appear to be a permanent attachment. Maybe just a tool to keep the kids safe and deter them from entering the golf course?

Why not just call ARC and get the answer rather than a bunch of opinions on here?

I dunno, it looks like a chain attached to two trees, to me. No fence post, no wall of chain-link, no netting. What's it called when you go to a theatre to watch a show, and they have the entry to the seating area roped off? Is that called a fence? I don't think it is. This appears to be on a similar vein, except with a chain instead of a rope. I would call that "a chain between two trees."

This concludes my Master Class in Fencing vs. A Chain Between Two Trees.

It looks like you would need at least three horizontal barriers to qualify for a fence and then something to hold these up. I have ducked under and through barbed wire with three horizontal lines which was usually to keep in livestock of some kind. Lots of it in Nevada. Barbed wire fences.
