Finally 18 holes on the Executive Course
Read in the paper yesterday that around the middle of January Yankee Clipper will be 18 holes of straight executive play for about a year. When you get a tee time for Yankee Clipper it will be for 18 holes and only 1 point will be awarded for playing. The cost for guest will be doubled. I think it is a great ideal!

Is this a new course? Where is it located?

It is a new course that opened by the new recreation center being built on Buena Vista out by Liberty Park. Yankee Clipper is now open and they are going to open another one later which will be the back nine of Yankee Clipper for the 18 straight holes.

I read about this and was surprised. Does anyone know the reason for this? Is no one playing the course and they want activity? It seems strange to do this in the winter when the courses are full. We do have the crossover in the summer when the tee times are supposedly open (or used to be).
There has to be a reason!!

not so good
SMALLDOG SEZ
First of all MERRY CHRISTMAS ..... this Yankee Clipper course is a lovely course, the best of the new courses so far, but making it 18 holes shuts out the great majority of golfers ( or at least a grest nimber of them)who because of their skill level or physical ability won't be able to use it ........ I have played it several times and most folks that I have played with have had just enough after 9 holes ......... that might be part of the idea since you just cut the available tee times in half, ya think

IMO, all of the new executive courses in that area (Redfish Run, Bonita Pass and Yankee Clipper) are nice layouts. They are a bit immature as far as grass, but very challenging. |

The Yankee Clipper course has a temporary starter shack. When you tee off you are on what will eventually be hole # 6.
The location for the real starter shack will be at hole number 1 of both Yankee Clipper and Southern Star. The area is inaccessible right now and the starter shack will be built in the future. The only way they could get use out of Southern Star is to combine it with Yankee Clipper. The course is ready for play. It gets a little complicated but it looks like you will play 4 holes on Yankee Clipper, then 9 holes on Southern Star, then the final 5 holes on Yankee Clipper. Par will be 57. (3 par 4's, the rest par 3's) Maybe some won't be able to handle the 18 holes, but think of it this way - those that do use it won't be taking tee times on the other executive courses. Eventually it will be two 9 hole courses.

Thanks for the clarification. I think I remember Bogart/Bacall being an 18 hole course before the starter shacks were built.

18 hole executive
I do think that we need one executive 18 hole course all the time for the people that move here for "FREE GOLF FOR LIFE" and dont want to play championship courses. Many people dont have the ability to play championship courses, but want to play and have fun for "FREE". And I believe many of these people will be happy with being able to play 18 holes executive for "FREE" for only one point.
