Question from the SunPass site:

If I have and EZ Pass and a SunPass will I be charged double?

If you are traveling on CFX roads with both SunPass and E-ZPass transponders, you are at risk for receiving charges on both prepaid toll accounts. For those customers with multiple transponders, it is recommended that you remove the E-ZPass transponder from your vehicle or place it into a Radio Frequency (RF) shield bag while driving throughout Florida in order to avoid the possibility of being charged more than once.

I did a lot of research on this because we are still maintaining a home in PA and driving back and forth. I found that the new UNI, which is owned by CFX is the best. It is good on SunPass roads and the CFX, plus all states on EZPass. EZPass hasn’t linked into all the FL roads yet, so there are still places where you can’t use it. They are working on it.

Odd. I haven't been to Sanford to see the big sign but both the Central Florida Expressway page and Turnpike Info page say EZ-Pass is accepted on 417.

If the information on the web pages is wrong then they really need to correct it.

Two entirely different systems. E-ZPass is used in the Northeast and Sun Pass was used primarily in Florida but now some neighboring states accept it too.

Florida toll roads have recently begun accepting E-ZPass as well as Sun Pass.

Florida now sells a Sun Pass Uni which functions on both systems. A previous post reported that it successfully worked on Sun Pass roads in Florida and also on roads that require E-ZPass.

I originally came from an E-ZPass state and purchased a Sun Pass down here. I now have both passes but will I expect to purchase a Sun Pass Uni to make life a little bit simpler.

If you have both an E-ZPass and a Sun Pass, why would you give up both and purchase a Sun Pass Uni? I also have both and am trying to figure out why I wouldn't just get rid of my Sun Pass since the E-Z Pass is free.

I have a Sun pass and it sticks to my windshield and have it set uo for both cars. I even had my RV on it till we sold it. Sunpass is setup that when ti.e to refill it comes out of my checking account. It also sends a email saying it did. Picked it up at Publix.

My E-ZPass is from MD. Sooner or later they will discover I no longer live there or I am not using it enough and they will start charging me for the privilege of having it. For me, the Uni pass will give me Sun Pass discounts in FL, will also work in MD, but won't have the MD fee.

If it wasn't for the potential fee, I would keep the separate systems and just remember to put one in the protective bag so I don't get charged twice. MD charges a fee, your state might not.

You are absolutely correct. I had an ezpass and it is not yet accepted on all roads in Florida. Closed that account and got a uni which works throughout Florida, and 17 other states. The ezpass from the northeast may eventually work everywhere but it has taken them years and is still not complete.
