Renting next month in the Villages. Any suggestions on locations to fish, especially for Bass?

Take a short drive to Leesburg, there are fresh water lakes galore over their, the ponds here are mostly manmade and are kept full of water from storm drains.

Several Villages ponds are enjoyable for casual bass fishing, like the one across from Lake Miona Rec Center.

Lake County has been identified as having 1,300 fish-able lakes according to Television Sportsman shows. I have had lots of success at Lake Griffin and Lake Harris.

Just my experience, last couple weeks been slow with cool weather. A few bass and crappie. Lake miona and bigger lakes in the area probably your best shot. Middle of February should be better. Have fun!

Agree, no bites the last couple of weeks. Things should pick up as it gets warmer.

Most of the larger ponds in The Villages are stocked with bass, crappies, and catfish, and others. Many of the bass are very large. Remember that it is strictly catch and release when fishing the ponds. Considering the golf course runoff they are not likely edible anyway. Just great fun to catch. You will need a $47 fishing license if you are not Florida resident.

I fish regularly on the Harris Chain, Lake Griffin, Lake Harris and Lake Eustis in particular.
Fish are in transition right now preparing to spawn, it's a little slow. Plastics are the best bet right now, dark blue and black swim jigs with a black and blue trailers are pretty good also.

The Leesburg lakes like Harris are worth visiting even if the fish aren't biting much these days. Huge beautiful bodies of water there. If you can make it all the way to the Dora canal you'll be in one of the most enchanting water scene ever. Cypress and bird heaven.
