Feeding gators is illegal in FL.
http://www.sno-bird.com/dontfeed.htm
I remember walking near a pond at John Chestnut Sr. Park in Palm Harbor, FL and approaching a picnic table. On top of which sat two 50ish gentlemen. They pointed out the 10 or so foot alligator eyeing them from the water's edge of the pond about 12 feet away. They said that the previous picnickers must have been feeding that alligator. As soon as the gator spotted another likely source of food it got out of the water quickly. That's when they both climber on top of the picnic table an hour before my arrival. The nearby Lake Tarpon which has a boat ramp and various vistas in John Chestnut Sr. Park has several thousand if not more alligators in it. http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/04_chesnut.htm The pond I was at had had a 14 foot alligator but some tourists had taken to trying to take pictures of it while riding on its back so the park rangers decided it was to big for the park and too much of a risk for the park. They destroyed the 14 footer. Last edited by Taltarzac725; 10-29-2010 at 08:33 AM. |
