Default Free antibiotics from Publix

I just got this email and thought it was interesting.

Publix Pharmacies Fill Millionth Free Prescription, Add Drug

LAKELAND, Fla., Jan. 15, 2008 — Publix Super Markets filled its 1 millionth free antibiotic through its free prescription drug program and has added doxycycline hyclate (capsules) to the program.

Launched in August 2007, Publix's free prescription drug program included the following oral antibiotics at all of its Publix Pharmacies:

* amoxicillin

* cephalexin

* sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (SMZ-TMP)

* ciprofloxacin (excluding ciprofloxacin XR)

* penici llin VK

* ampicillin and

* erythromycin (excluding Ery-Tab).

"Filling our millionth prescription under our free prescription drug program is a milestone we're proud to accomplish. Our customers and the medical community have been very pleased with the program," said Maria Brous, Publix media and community relations director. "Adding doxycycline hyclate capsules to the program will help meet the health and wellness needs of even more of our customers and 3; associates."

New or current customers simply need to provide their Publix pharmacist with their prescription, up to a 14-day supply, and it will be filled at no charge. The number of prescriptions customers may fill for free is not limited.

The free antibiotics are offered to customers regardless of their prescription insurance provider.

Sam, thanks for posting this. It's great! I can't believe it. They would never do anything like this in Illinois. I LOVE IT HERE! :bigthumbsup:

I think there are many people in TV with limited income and this may help them.

In this day and age of the worship of the Almighty Dollar, that Publix will fill free generic antibiotic prescriptions is mind blowing! Though I posted this on a different thread a while back, it's worth mentioning again that there are many who believe that ALL generic prescriptions at Wal-Mart pharmacies are $4. In reality, they have a list of the $4 offerings; all the others are priced accordingly, and they are NOT $4....

What are the qualifications for this? I'm sure that not EVERYBODY can walk into the store and walk out with free antibiotics. Surely you must have to bring your last seven years of income tax paperwork with you.

Jan,

According to this PR is looks like a completely free program. Perhaps it does require some sort of coverage but for the most part the antibiotics that they are providing are very, very cheap anyway even without any prescription coverage. Still a nice thing to do.
